Help please, roof won't fit into boot...

Hi,

has anyone got any tips on how to get the roof panel into the boot?

I have tried putting it in rear first (just fits) but it won't go in far enough for the front corners (of the roof) to clear the rear corners of the boot aperture.

I don't really want to try forcing it.

Are there any other "tricks" or has anyone else come across this problem?

Forgot to mention - it's a mk1, 2001.

Rear first is the way.

On mine I find it easiest to hold the roof by the sides, place the rear in first and put it as far back and upwards as possible before the front of the roof drops in.

Doesn't it have to go in rearmost first, so that the locating groove on the roof locates on the metal stub next to the boot lock?

It's in!

I had a couple of large cans of tyre weld under the flap at the front of the boot which I've removed, and I tried to push the carpet into the corners as much as possible.

But I still had to "persuade" the front corners past the seals...

Hopefully I'll be able to get it back out again!
