Genuine factory tuscan S/how to i.d

Hi guys a friend of mine is interested in a 2002 Tuscan S. When he puts the reg no. in for an insurance quote it comes back saying its just a tuscan. Is this the norm or should it come back [if genuine] tuscan S. Any sure fire way to tell its a genuine S. What should the log book say? Any way to tell from the chassis/engine no.s etc ? He also tells me he has done some research on the net and the info came back that TVR made a tuscan S from 2004 onwards,im sure this is wrong as i have seen classifieds myself with S cars for sale that had been 2001 reg. Any help/guidance much appreciated. thanks Tom.

My friends old S was a 2002 IIRC so definitely made pre 2004.

Aside from the front splitter and rear spoiler (which are easily retrofitted), on a Mk1 the only sure fire way to tell a genuine S is the rear light configuration.

They're not differentiated on the V5 though (mine isn't at least).

From 2004 onwards, the Mk2. S was the Tuscan, with the £10k "S-pack" option over the standard model. Telling them apart from a standard model with the spoilers bolted on afterward is tricky without getting underneath and measuring the diameter of the exhaust system. The S has bigger bore pipes.
