Tuscan Mk.1 for Euro Run

Hi all,

Has anyone taken their Tuscan Mk1 for any serious road driving in Europe? In this instance, to Eastern Europe? We are planning to do at at least 4 euro runs a year (each time in a different car) with the first being a London to Budapest run in November.

Rather than lease a car we are considering buying a Tuscan when we get back into London and selling it after the drive.

Would it be worth selling the car on the Continent or simply arranging a quick sale to a garage back home? Losing a bit of value on the car isn't an issue, the car just needs to be sold quickly (read immediately).

The car will be driven for about 2-3 weeks and I assume will cover about 2,000 miles on top of the drive there and back. We want to have the car we choose prepped by a specialist just to make sure it's in top condition for the run. Can anyone recommend a good TVR specialist (we are in West London)? A specialist that is able to inspect the car prior to purchase would be good.

We are putting together a list of essential spares to bring along but any suggestions/advice would be most welcome.

Dont know what you consider long distance.


The most I did in the tuscan was from the south coast to berlin, berlin to munich, Munich to innsbruck, innsbruck to south coast.


Car was flawless for the whole journey.

Used my Mk1 for driving from North West UK to Braunschweig North Germany about 8 times.
Use my Mk2 for the same.
Also plenty of southern France and Spain runs in both as well.
No brake down problems at all.

Thank you for the replies. When I mentioned "serious road driving" I was referring to the fun roads we intend to tackle on the way back.

We will drive to Hungary on the motorways taking the quickest route. On the way back we will take on roads in Austria, Italy, drop a box of tea off in Grimaud (long story) then head up to Paris to add to Mrs co-pilot's shoe/bag collection before heading home. Any road suggestions for Austria would be most welcome as I have never driven there.

For those that drive/have driven Europe in their Tuscans, what spares/just-in-case fixes did you take along? Currently watching the Finding Driving Heaven clip and wishing we were already on our way.

one key investment would be a good set up of the geometry, also get some spacers from SP, do a search for £20 in the Tuscan forum. They will make a world of difference.

For spares, I suggest spare belts (a/c and power steering pump) and a spare throttle cable. 100amp fuse. and a roll of duct tape.

I did just over 2800 miles in 2 weeks last summer down through France and Spain and back. Apart from the required stuff, ie bulbs etc, I took a small toolkit, some oil & coolant and some duct tape and cable ties. The toolkit was only needed as the brake light microswitch stuck on one day, which was the only problem, other than parking in Gijon.
