Just seen this on ebay.

Fair play to the guy, he does tell you the half time bearing has gone. I don't think he realises the cost of an engine out job to fix what looks like a small issue. If you do get it out to change the bearing, it's likely to be a rebuild anyway. If done correctly, he's not going to see much change from £5K.

Deep in take of breath and time to haggle. Or find a sucker to buy it.

the add does say that it had a rebuild at 24000 miles, so if it is just the half time bearing I would have thought this would cost around £1k??

or I could be way off the markhehe

There was a thread on this a few wks back. There are conflicting stories as to whether it's an engine out job, however if it's done by a specialist, the easiest way is to remove the engine. Someone had a quote of £1500 to do the job.

I am not sure that a rebuild is necessarily needed. If the bearing fails then I believe it is rebuild time. The other thing to consider is that if you're having the engine removed, is it worthwhile adding another £3.5k & having a rebuild done?

The ad does state that the half time bearing will be sorted, however as you say, the seller may not know what's involved.
