Noisey Transmission

Had the car a year now and noticing more and more how noisey the transmission is.
Spoken to 2 TVR Garages about this and one says early type diff live with it the other says Tuscans are more rash than other T cars.
I don't accept either.
Most noticable at about 50mph when dropping into 5th also coasting and downshifting,you get vibration on the floor pan but more noticable at the rear.
When you put your foot really down there is vibration but when you level off quite a smooth drive.
Iv'e done 6k in her car has only covered 9300 miles and it's a 2003 model.
Thoughts are,
Diff bush
Engine mounts
Gearbox mounts
Maybe a bearing in the box.
What does a early diff mean?

Engine mount would be the first thing I would check, I've had to have quite a few of these, the one on the near side is favourite and if replaced you would be best getting a heat shield for it too. I had my diff bushes done last year at 59k and that seemed more like a clunk than anything.
I once had a really bad vibration and that ended up being the rear brakes (hand brake) but they are not the same as the Tuscan.

Thanks for the reply Kev,As it's a low cost and 2 hour job i will replace them they are the original mounts you can tell by the paint on the threads.
I will let you know how i get on

Would check prop shaft UJ,s and gearbox rubber mounts while your under there

if its the original engine mounts they deffo would have sagged down if not broken! Check gearbox and diff oil level aswell as the other bits stated

That's not good, but on the plus point at the mileage you have done they would have been ready for changing.

Its hard to judge the noise accurately. In 5th, I certainly get quite a resonance in the car at lower speeds (at 50 ish I'd say it has gone by then, more like 30 to 40mph where it peaks). Its not a vibration so much as a loud low picthed "whine" that fills the cab but you drive through it soon enough. Noticable only with the roof on.

Same here - It's like adding extra bass to the sound of the engine. No vibration though, and it only does it in low revs and around 40 in 5th gear.

My old Cerbera used to do this, was only in 4th,and at the right,( wrong?) speed. It was more like a booming resonance that filled the car, sort of coming from the floor.

TVR didn't put much effort into their NVH testing.

Wouldn't worry about it if I were you unless its an obvious change from the norm.
