Heater ECU Issues
Discussion
Been having probs with the heater for ages, so took our the ECU today and found that one of the pins has snapped, so sending it off to Electroversal for a refurb/repair.
However the corresponding pin hole on the loom connector looks like it has burnt out.
Can this one pin socket be replaced or do I need full new connector block? If so anyone know a good auto electrician in the Surrey area?

hi Ian, happy new year, have used this guy before and have found him rather good.

Sat in a very toasty car now! Problem solved by Dave at Electroversal Ltd after 3 attempts. Fan works all the time regardless of the settings and no stutter either.
The final fix which has done the job is replacing the small insulation around the part which attaches via a bolt to the metal casing in the middle of the unit. Not sure what the part is called.
I would send the unit to Dave as he know how to fix the problem now.

This is the same problem I had. Lights but no action!! Take out the ECU and you should find a nut on the outer casing attached to a bolt coming from inside the unit. It will be in between the fins in the middle of the casing. This bolt passes through and electrical component on the circuit board and seems to act like an earth.
I would personally send the unit to Electroversal as they will replace the bits needed and others which may have also gone including the capacitors which do fail.
However if you want to do it yourself, take of the nut and undo the 4 screws at the end with the loom connector. Withdraw the circuit board trying to keep the bolt which passes through the casing in place as this will show you which part it passes through. Once out withdraw the bolt fully and you should see a fine piece of insulation come away between the bottom of the part and the casing. Replace this and then reassemble. Also check the capacitors by seeing if they are bulging or that the top covers have not come off. If all fails, Dave at Electroversal should be able to help.
You may also want to check fuses and the loom which connects the control dials on the gear box tunnel as mine were also replaced at the same time. If you can get a friend to lend you an ECU you can check to see if this is the problem or not.
Good luck.

Hi Curdster, once again, thanks for that.
Well, I followed your instructions and everything looks as new, so no obvious signs there. I'm pretty certain that that's not the problem here and don't really want to go sending parts off that are going to be invoiced the same price whether they're faulty or not, so I'd like to do a little more looking around.
So, please, how does one get to check the loom and switches... maybe even the heater motor itself?

You need to find a local Tuscan owner who has a working ecu, so you can swap and test. Thats what i did today (many thanks to Neill for the swap).Well, I followed your instructions and everything looks as new, so no obvious signs there. That way you know if the fault lies with the ecu or another part of the system
Well, extended thanks to blue & nrick.
I could do with finding some local Tuscan buddies then I guess.
I for one could quite easily cope without a fan, but the current wife gets a bit cold at the thought of the roof coming off.. Also if it's raining and you're ever caught out, the window's will fog up I'd imagine....
