How can I attach the edge of the roof panel??

Hi all

The edge piece from my roof panel (the separate bit above the side windows) has become loose at the front. I'm loathe to try and pull it away any further so i can'rt really see how it is attached to the main roof panel, but I've tried Araldite two part adhesive and that hasn't worked - seems to be too much pressure for it to hold. My concern is that at any speed the air gets underneath it and rips it off altogether

Anyone any ideas how this is attached?

I'm no expert but i think there were 3 types of roof produced, one with the side pieces glued on, one with them bolted on, you maybe able to feel the nuts on the inside of the roof underneath the lining, and one with them moulded on. So it really depends which type you've got.

However araldite is probably still your best bet, i have used it before with varying degrees of success but if you get it mixed right and get it to bond to two clean surfaces it will probably be stronger than the fibreglass itself. There are several types for different jobs though, maybe try something like araldite precision, its slow setting and is designed for uneven breaks or small gaps so if you can get some of that in there it may just sort it.

If its a flexible strip, then Sikaflex 291 is about your best bet...sticks like a sob once its cured

I agree with that! The side skirts on my Supra were held on by that stuff and only a couple of mechanical fixings

If you remove the window rubbers from the roof it will reveal 4 or 5 screw heads which attach the strip the rubber sits in. Remove the strip and it will reveal 3 further screw heads which hold the side panel onto the roof. You don't need to remove the headlining. Becareful as mine was also stuck with Sikaflex.
Remove all the old sealant clean up and run a new bead of sealant onto the join then screw back into place. Replace the rubber strip holder and then the side window rubber, remembering to put a small amount of super glue in the rubber track to stop it moving and causing leaks at the front or rear of the window.
