Discussion
Just got the car back from its MOT and the handbrake isn't working (must have been working ok though as it passed the MOT, and handbrake was on when I picked it up!). Phoned the garage and they'll take it back to look at, but does it sound like a simple thing to fix (that saves me the hassle of another day off work!).
Handbrake isn't pulling the brake on, no ratchet clicks, it's freely moving up and down, no tension on it. Sound familiar to anyone?

Now that this subject is discussed: my handbrake does not 'click' when put back down (button does not come out). I have to push/hit it down to make the button come out. If i don't, it will not fixate when pulled back up.
Someone told me that this is a 'racing handbrake'. It will not automatically lock when pulled up, to enable handbrake cornering. If you want to use it as a normal handbrake you first have to push it down, and then pull it.
Is that right? Is it the same at all Tuscans?

No that is not correct. Mine did that at first, well actually the button didn't come out at all. So I took it apart and the button was catching on the aluminium housing, a quick clean and a little deburr later and it was fine. Now it works as it should! I think they tend to stick if not used frequently. Maybe a little wd40 would help?

That is true - a racing handbrake is something that one would normally find in the WRC cars, or those modified Japanese cars people use for drifting.. I doubt anyone would put this in a Tuscan. But then again, somebody fitted an engine that sticks out of the bonnet by 10 inches, so I would not be surprised.....! :-)nrick said:

Is it easy to take it apart? Any hints?nrick said:
Sounds like a broken cable or fitting, was it working before? Could they have tightened it up to get it through?
Yes it was working fine, they didn't need to adjust it. Handbrake was on when I picked the car up, next time I went to pull the handbrake on was when I was home and that's when I noticed it wasn't working. Might get a chance to look at it over weekend.J_E_T said:

It may just be bent over slightly. If it is pushed slightly toward the passenger side then the "ratchets" miss. Try pulling it back towards the drivers side gently. Mine did this and once and it wouldn't stay on. G
Had a chance to look at this yesterday, and the problem is the button sticking as mentioned above. Pulling the button out gets the handbrake to work, but then it just sticks again. Bit of WD40 has helped, but it's still sticking now and then. Any suggestions how to sort this? What forces the button to come back out?
