Had an excellent run out with the Cambs TVRCC to Sywell Nothants yesterday. The only downside was that I picked up a stone chip to my windscreen, which is too large to repair. Good news is insurance company will pay for the replacement with a £75 excess.

The only thing I'm concerned about is having to take it to Autoglass in Cambridge, as I never let anyone touch my car who's not experienced with TVR's.

Has anyone had good experiences with Autoglass on their TVR's, and are there any issues I should be aware of?

Thanks

I would not go to Autoglass if my life depended on it. They fitted a new screen to my Tuscan and they hid their shoddy repair with the top window rubber. When that needed replacing I took the old one out and found they had not fitted the screen squarely with the right hand side being higher than the other and filled the left hand gap with silicone. I took it back and they said that as I had taken off the rubber which was not even attached to the screen!!! it was my fault?!?!?. I wrote to them, called them and even badgered their M.D. with no result and no acknowledgement. Absolute bunch of bankers.

My insurance includes a larger excess if I use anyone other than Autoglass. Larger excess it is then!!

Autoglass Gateshead fitted a new screen to my Chimaera and did a great job. Like anything workmanship will vary from centre to centre but I had no complaints.

Sorry to hear about the Chip. One happened recently while on a test drive, luckily the dealer was driving but it's not good either way.

Does it state on your insurance docs that it has to be Autoglass? Often insurers will state their preferred provider, but they word it so it sounds like that's the only option. I would speak to your insurer about your concerns and see what they say.

I've seen some good reports on Autoglass if you manage to find the ones which are experienced etc. Maybe ring around a few different and scope out how they react. I've heard of several people doing this and the garage has actually said that they'd only let "Mr X" do it, or even recommended another garage and so book it in for a specific person to do the work. Remember it's not really in their interest to get it wrong either so if you find a decent garage then it should be ok.

Oh, and i'll send you a pm about Chatsworth smile

Now sorted, spoke to Chris Brown (excellent local body repairer of TVR's in Downham Market, Norfolk), he recommended speaking to Glas Weld Systems (specialist auto glass repairer) who can repair chips up to around the size of a two pound coin, for less cost than my insurance excess, so they are going to repair it next week.
