How much would you let your Tuscan go for ?
Discussion
From the 'Tuscan in Florida' thread and having spoken with the dealer who said he was on the look out for more TVR's, how much would be enough for you to let your Tuscan go ?
Personally $150,000 would be difficult for me but I can feel my guts saying "no f
g way".
Greed over emotions !!!
http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a... S Mk11 In SW Florida!
Anyway if this guy does have a way to import to the US thats legit, then T car values will go up, up, up which makes me smile, smile, smile. I met with the TVR Fan Club North America two years ago (great bunch of people) and there were a number who were envious of my Tuscan and longed for one of later models ... Tuscans or Sags etc.
Come on Mr very rich American collector man, make me an offer I cant refuse.
(no, dont make me an offer as I dont want to sell !).

On the look out for? Surely the classifieds on PH alone have a good choice if they have a legit way of bringing the car over? Why would they need to be on the look for anything if they have a channel to import? Simply buy a car with a rebuilt engine and ship it over surely? I hate to be the pessimist here but something just doesn't seem right. It obviously does have a registration but I have a feeling it wasn't imported properly/officially. This could potentially make it liable for confiscation and destruction which wouldn't be fun for the owner. Florida (South Florida in particular) is a different world when it comes to "getting things done" so I am sure if you know the right person you can slip into the country. It being totally legal is another thing.
I also wonder what their solution is for servicing the S6.
Legalities aside, amen to them for having the stones to risk getting it there and bravo for getting the car on the road. If it sold for anywhere near the asking price the buyer got themselves a lot of exclusivity.*
until they bump into me

I wouldnt want to let mine go at all.....but if i got offered that kind of money of course it would have to go!! But....after paying for shipping and import duty then trying to make a profit....cant imagine you would make that much for the effort??
Not sure really...
Costs to ship...£6k?
Import tax...£3k?
Purchase price £30k
...
i guess there may be a profit somewhere!

I think shippings is only aout 1k.
If they got their target price which was over $100k then I think there is a lot of profit.
It would be nice for values to jump up but at the same time I dont want to sell.
The other thing is, if prices went too high then a lot of TVR fans just wouldnt be able to buy one.

Importing them legally into the the US isn't very easy. I'm moving to the US shortly and I aim to import my tuscan once we're settled.
My understanding of the process is that firstly you need to do the following mods are the following:
Replace all glazing for DOT approved items (i.e custom glass needs to be sourced)
Replace lights for DOT marked and approved items (probably not too tricky to source)
Replace brake lines for DOT approved items (not sure how much needs to be replaced?)
Replace tyres for US spec.
Probably a few other mods too?
Once you've done this, you then need to remove the engine and transmission from the car. You then import the rolling chassis as an "assembly of parts/piece of machinery" and separately import the engine and transmission as another piece of machinery.
You then re-assemble the car and register it as a kit car with yourself as the manufacturer. So not so simple and quite costly. Reckon about 15 grand all in? There's a chap here on PH that offers the service as he imports other vehicles in this way (Weismann, Gumpert etc.). I'm sure he'll pop up soon.
