At what temp should I start to worry about the oil / water temps in this heat?

The fans cut in at about 90 deg but sat in traffic in this heat they seem to be constantly on, is it anything to worry about? I don't imagine it to be a problem but just want some reassurance!!

Cheers

Anything above 100 degree should get worry. 90 to 98 is pretty normal especially sitting in traffic. Just be glad that your fans are on!!.

Mine was very well behaved in long traffic jams today even after a spirited drive just before the jam.
20 mins creeping along at 5 mph saw the temp peak at 96 but fall very quickly when the second fan cut in. As soon as I was moving it was steady at 85. With the aircon running it got to 96 a bit quicker.

I am impressed with the way the cooling system handles crawling along in the heat (it was 25 degrees today).

(my car has an ali rad if that makes any difference)

FYI, according to Dom at TVR Power, my dash display shows the temp as about 3 or 4 degrees higher than the actual temp meaning my 1st fan doesnt cut in until about 96 on the dash - very worrying when sat in traffic on a hot day !

Popped to the ace cafe last week in the sunshine and water temps ended up with the gauge fluctuating around 105-108. Oil temp was up around 95.

I'm thinking this is a little excessive now! Both fans were on, and temps cooled down once we got going.

Looks like i'll have to do some investigating!

would concur with the other responses. 92 first fan, 96 the second i think, never goes above 100 (that i have seen). Cooling system copes really well, think i have a standard rad - though have to confess to not being sure as its alu coloured?!!!hehe

I also have the latest block that runs cooler and takes longer to warm up. Its not unusual to see 75 degrees water and 75 degrees oil when driving them how they should be driven wink

Well... a few mins of investigating after taking a nice long drive in the sunshine today has found that the nearside fan is blowing through the radiator rather than sucking the air through towards the bonnet!!! Please re-assure me this isn't how it was designed??

So looks like I need to check what fans are fitted to mine. Does anyone know the original fan type/orientation etc? Or have any good photos of the original fans?

The offside fan doesn't kick in, even with 103 showing on the dash pod.
Is there an easy way of checking the true water temps rather than relying on the dash? As i'm conscious that it may just be the dash isn't reading correctly.

Cheers!

On mine they both suck through.

You can check temps by connecting a laptop to the ecu diagnostics socket. You will need the diagnostic lead, free software from mytuscan or graham varleys sag site and a laptop with a serial port.

Mr Chips,
I will be out and about today (apart from the footie at lunchtime), if you want to have a look at the fans on mine, send me an email to arrange time and location.

i believe thats how it has to be
they blow cool air into the radiators
after that the air disappears through the 2 holes between 1st and 2nd bonnet
they cant suck it out because the drivewind will push it back in

glad i have a boat know
the tusc was fun but nothing beats beiing on the water with these temps

Most do, to get the real temp you need to connect a laptop, mine reads 4 degrees higher on dash.
