Hi

With such good deals to be had on all Tuscans, new and old, I am wondering what experiences owners of post 2005 Tuscans have had with their three year warranties.
Is it possible that TVR will duck out of their responsibilities when they leave the UK? Have any legal types had a close look at the small print?
Would an early cheap Tuscan with the full Craft upgrades be a better proposition?
I have a collection of classic sports cars in the UK and must say my TVR Griffith is my favourite - I would be keen to add a Tuscan but can't decide in the current climate if a discounted new Tuscan 2 or a revamped early cheap Tuscan 1 would be best.
All sensible civil comments would be welcome.

Thank you.

IMO the mk1 shape is the original classic.
If you're worried what other people think though, then it's probably not the car for you then.

I've had a Tuscan 2 new from the 1st of March this year and it's just clocked up 18,000 miles with no engine issues. I have had a couple of small warrenty claims and I've had no issues with those. In my opinion you'd be fine with a new Tuscan.

I agree with lowest...I've got a Tuscan 2 Convertible and it's great. I had a few niggles sorted under warranty...window sensor, inspection bonnet not absolutely evenly spaced, bit of paintwork, idling messed up by dealer at 1000 mile service ...all sorted by Heath at the factory.

See - www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=323367&r=4304080&hm=38660#4304080 - have claimed on the warranty in the past month, since the announcement, and no issues experienced. Potentially another claim this month so hopeful that the recent experience is continued.

I'm also thinking of going for a mk2 Tuscan when prices hit mid twenties.
judging by the way prices are falling that shouldn't be to long.
my question is apart from the s6 being sorted now is the clutch more reliable than in the mk1,as this was also caused a lot of problems and expense..

Not unless they've changed the design. Alternative clutches are available now to solve this problem though.

Not wanting to deviate from the topic but I have heard from a very reliable source that TVR will not be going to Europe - well not Italy anyway.

Seems like Mr.Russia has ruffled too many feathers in certain European camps!

Prices have already hit the mid 20's for 05 tuscan2's and the warrenty is still being honoured (I speak from experience)

Buy mine !! Still nearly 12 months on warranty left !!

Seriously, I had some minor niggles sorted out under the warranty (leaking fuel tank, pod error, rear-screen fit)without any problem whatsoever just a few months back. In fact, customer service at TVR were incredibly helpful as i was sorting the whole issue out by email from Hong Kong !

It's definitely so far so good with the 3 year warranty. I haven't needed any warranty work at all but I know of cars that are still getting fixed under warranty as we speak. I have to say my 06 car has noticeably fewer niggles than my 05 car did. So I do think TVR have succeeded in improving things, sadly it's just all a bit too late, for the UK at least. But a craft sorted mk 1 is I agree a tempting alternative, there just aren't many cars around to choose from, at least not for sale anyway, I get the impression that their owners would rather sell you a limb!

I have a craft sorted mk 1. Original plan was to sell it but now I'm in two minds. It really has transformed the engine - more powerful, smoother, more responsive. The difference over the old is chalk and cheese. So now I'm thinking do I really want to sell it now its the best its ever been?

Hi

Given the latest hot news of the receivership does this mean all the TVR three year warranties are now worthless? How will this affect values of newish TVRs?

Ricardo, The one benefit is that there are only 50 Tuscan 2 S Convertibles (and half of them seem to be at dealers..going for low prices)...I think longer term they'll prove to be an appreciating (well maybe not depreciating as quickly) asset. I'm hoping the real horror stories of the Speed Six are over, you may hear about the odd one but isn't that true of all cars. I've a BMW and they had a horror with the cylinder head linings in the 90's on 3 & 5 series. True , we've probably lost our three year warranties, but I was hoping not to have to use it.
From what you say, if I was in your position , I'd wait weeks and I bet you could get a really good deal, after all the car is still the same car.

My speedo packed up on Mon. Thought I'd wait until after christmas to get it fixed (another dodgy transducer no doubt). Bugger.

What will be the story with this? Did tvr power pick it up in the end or not?

I agree with you that the 105 total - 50 S and 55 non-S Tuscan Convertible will turn out to be among the most desirable TVRs in the future. Probably a better option for the collector than the Sagaris.

Sorry to be a harbinger of doom, but all these claims were when TVR was there to meet costs or pay premiums. Dont know what will happen now.

You might be lucky if TVR have paid the insurance premiums for this year, but after that not so sure. If you are very lucky they will have paid for a term premium and the three years will have been secured up front.

MG/Rover fell into the same issues when they folded and dealers goodwill expired pdq.
