Hi

Can anyone tell me if there is an obvious physical difference between the two types of cylinder head bolts you can get in the Ford 2.0 Pinto engine. I need to get a new set from the wreckers yard and don't want to get the TTY ones by mistake. I guess if the wreckers are any good they will have thrown these sort anyway but who knows.

Cheers
Charlie

OK the later TSS Torx bolts are in effect a single use bolt. You can use either type of bolt on the OHC engines but only as single type sets ie do not mix TSS Torx and splined (earlier type) bolts on the same engine it is either one type or the other.

Hope that helps you.

Thanks for that.

So the Torx type have a star shaped head with approx 6 points and the splined ones have a much finer pitch producing many more points?

Yes the torx are the ones with six points where as the splined ones have 12 points. You may also (depending on the engines age) still have the hexagonal head bolts.
The torx bolts should still be available new from a Ford dealer or good auto supply shop.
