Demisting

Well the Geep still has it's slow, low compression MK1 transit engine. I dream about a diesel conversion butthere's a Midas with a stuffed clucth and a 1/3 built Gemini in the garage so whilst it's running I daren't touch it....
One problem I found last winter and I'm looking at fixing this year is my demisting. On the drivers side there is some kind of (very narrow) electrical conduit taking the air from the flat plastic thingy that should sit in the dashboard and direct air to the windscreen (it's late and my brain hurts so I can't remember the word). As the diameter is at least 1/5 of the tubing to the passenger side naff all air can get through and I can't see on cold mornings. It looks like this is a result of using the standard escort instruments not leaving enough room behind for the wider diameter pipe (or was it just a lash-up?)
Anyone else come across this and is there an easy fix beyond rebuilding the intrument panel to make space behind?

It sounds like you have the "Jago" method of demist venting.
It just does not work as most people find out.
We tend to try and either fit a replacement dash vent from somewhere like Europa Specialist Spares which has the inlet on the side not underneath so allowing the Escort pipe to fit into (possibly an adaptor bit of pipe)the vent.
The other thing we do (more often than not) but most people find this to fiddly is make up our own heater unit and then we can use what ever type of demist vent we find fits.

Hi there,

You can get electrical heaters which plug into a cigar lighter socket, these cost about £20 and use quite a few amps. Some of the 7 cars use them for SVA (Wired in permanently) when they don't have a heater. My son got one for a Fiat Panda with a duff heater & it worked a treat.

I fitted a Nova heater to mine, a fair bit of work but its bloody marvelous
