Someone tried to steal the Geep this morning... I went out to post a letter and I saw the Geep had moved- initially I thought that the handbrake cable had snapped and the kerb had prevented it from moving any further but when I got closer I saw that the driver's window had been smashed to smithereens
I looked inside and the rest of the window was there, and the strings holding the doors shut (there were no locks) had been cut. The handbrake was not engaged and the bit where the indicator stalks has become loose and the wiring loom has been cut.
I haven't had time to check the engine out but its such a shame as well, such a nice example.
I don't know what to do, I'm only a student with a part time job, and I've no idea where to start or get parts from
I need help
Does any one have any info on where I can get some or will anyone be kind enough to sell any spare parts they have and don't need? I would be most grateful...
Thanks in advance for any help etc.
Donna.

Don't you just love it when some spotty little erk does this? Of course, the poor little gits have come from a broken home no doubt and are to be felt sorry for.
Sorry to hear about this Donna......First off, try and cover the Jeep over perhaps to keep out the wet stuff that'll get in thru the broken window.
The new window glass I reckon could be cut to size at a windscreen supplier. I'm non to sure about the use of perspex for side windows nowadays, perhaps someone can advise re the legalities etc.,?
Not being able to actually see where the wiring has been cut....is a bit difficult to advise how to go about a repair unfortunately. If there's enough wire showing either side of the cut, then you may be able to add a small length between each cut peice (providing it's done well) sounds a bit of a bodge job though
If it's a new indicator stalk you need then 7Monkey may be able to help (Mike????)
I should have a goodnight's sleep, have a good look at the damage when you've got an hour to spare, and let us know what's what a bit later on and see if anyone can help then.
It does sound as if it's silly kids hell bent on destruction if they've deliberately cut the wires....I think if they want to nick it it's a screwdriver in the ignition job. I know it's a case of shutting the stable door etc., but have you thought of an alarm? Just one final other thing, tell the Police.....I doubt they can do much about it (with respect to the BiB, but it may well be that other people had their vehicles tampered with...if there's spate of it, then they may be on the lookout.
'am sorry to hear about it though.

Chop their goolies off, that's what I say!
Sorry to hear the bad news, no indicator stalks here but try the regular suppliers of Mk2 escort stuff - Pete at Yorkshire rally Spares, Escort Agency, Johnstons of Catrine, Classic and rally spares etc as well as e bay of course.
No spare glass either but
Plan A could bring some polycarbonate sheet to Stoneleigh if you don't get it fixed instantly - cuts witha jigsaw, can be drilled for handles and locks and (best bit) unbreakable by vermin of the streets.
However if it gets badly scratched needs replacing but would keep the weather out, might need to lift doors off for next MOT. Let me know if this is any good, sorry we can't be of much help.
Plan B
If you are near Stroud there's a pair of doors going for £20 on the new forum which would get you weather tight then you could sell doors later in year when it is getting draughty to some one who has bought the e bay jeep with no weather gear!!!
Good luck
Mike

Donna,
May I recomend you go to Argos - the cheapest alarm is little more than a motion sensor at least it keeps the little oiks out. Very easy to wire simply two wires to the battery and bolt to the inner wing. - More visually get one of those Autolock things that go between the handbrake and gearlever you often find them on sale at Car Boot Sales.
Having done that don't bother locking the doors, they still break in and at least you do not get extra damage.

Simplest way to stop someone from stealing/starting your Geep is to remove the rotor arm from the distributor. Once upon a time this was not too satisfactory a way to stop theft. But, how many cars have them fitted nowadays? Answer is hardly any! So, a simple anti-theft device that costs nothing but a little time (seconds).

Thanks for all the help!
The previous owner came to have a look at it the other day, the wiring under the steering column is such a mish mash of untidiness, its hard to see if anything had been cut, but he confirmed that none of them had been damaged.
The bracket that holds the column up has been broken, but my friend says his friend owns Worcester Commercials and can MIG weld it back into place.
Ignition thingy has completely gone, but got someone coming out to look at all this this evening.
Um... engine looks fine, and I'm hopefully getting replacement windows today with a bit of luck.
As for the doors, they've been damaged, and depending on the price TrialBoy is asking, I could well be interested in those, especially if they've got locks. I will message him and ask.
All in all... damage not critical!!! Had the police on my back this morning, saying I must move it back onto the forecourt... oh well. Such is life...

make sure they'll fit first, unless you just have them for the glass and locks

The ignition switch wasn't gone at all- the barstewards had pushed the thing so far up it had gone up beneath the dash!! Ah the joy when I saw it pop out :P it was like I'd found a long lost friend :P
The joy was doubled when I was able to start it up
Me happy.

Heck.....you're one lucky girl Donna! Glad to hear your Jeep started up OK. I guess all that's left now is that you get in touch with trialboy, and do what all the rest of us do....act on the experience and get yourself an alarm and immobilise the engine in whatever way you want.
Alternatively I can rent out my Mother-in-Law to you. You could chain her to the back bumper. She hasn't earned the name 'Mrs Rotweiller' for nothing, and can assure you she would keep your Jeep safe and sound, and you could sleep peacefully in the knowledge that no-one in their right mind would want to go near it!

They don't fit properly, they require a bit of fettling
Oh dear oh dear oh dear.
I do hope I'm not in trouble...
I got the Jago in Oct but didn't register it as mine til now cos I couldn't find the V5, and hence not declare SORN. The previous owner hadn't registered it in his name and so couldn't have declared SORN. When I got it I didn't know you had to be the registered keeper to declare it, so I thought he'd already done it.
It says it wasn't licensed since Nov 2003! They say its an offence
Oh God what's going to happen?
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO??!!
<scared>
no, wait <very scared>
:'O(
I've never been in trouble like this all my life

I've just sent this email to them asking where I stand:
"Dear Sir/Madam
I have just declared my vehicle as being off the road on the DVLA's website. It said that my vehicle has not been licensed since 2003, however I only acquired the car in October last year. The V5 document came with it, and I intended to register it in my name but when I came to do it I was unable to find the V5. I only found you could get a replacement when I phoned you, hence I was unable to declare SORN until now.
As I was not the registered keeper before now, am I the one responsible for paying the excess tax?? Or do I only pay outstanding tax for the time during Oct-May 2006? As far as I know the person I bought it off had not registered the car as being his, but at the time, as it was on his driveway, I assumed that it had already been registered as being off the road. As this is my first car, I didn't know that you had to be the registered keeper to declare SORN.
Please help!! I hope I am not in trouble.
Yours Faithfully,
Donna Ludlow"

Donna,
1. Did you get a reciept when you purchased your car?
2. If not if you know the seller get a back dated reciept - I would not tell them why as the crap is going to come their way.
2a. If you got it from an advert in the local paper - or via EBay find the ad.
3. Now make photo copies of the reciept ad or whatever and write the nicest "I am ever so sorry and I am soo dumb letter to the DVLA explaining when you got the Jeep what you thought etc. With a bit of luck you may get away with a slapped wrist and only paying tax since you owned the vehicle - with greater luck they may be very human and back-date the Sorn.
Give it a try.
