Hi, inlet manifold on with stupid big v6 carb(i will change that but just want to hear it run!), range rover tank sat nicely in the rear chassis, all plumbed in, spark and fuel getting where it should when it should(bearing in mind no one knows how long this car has sat, i hadn't touched anything elctrical, didn't even look under dizzy cap first), some jump leads, three friends a gallon of fuel and fingers crossed, and it fired, pretty much first time. Haven't got any cooling sorted yet, my question is, what is a viscous fan???????????? sorry to ask another dumb one!, i obviously need a capri or cortina radiator, unless you know otherwise, but what sort of fan can i run, my water pump doesn't yet have a pulley either so i need to sort that, am i right that it runs off the same belt as the alternator, and bottom pulley?, the pinto has bloody bags of compression, with the plugs out and turning it over you can't get near the plug holes, but when it fired it ran for those few moments very nicely, we had a hose pipe stuck in the top hose and kept water flowing through, but cooling is my next task

Well done for getting it running so easily. Any probs with carburation will show themselves when driving under load. Hopefully just horribly rich which can be addressed by a main jet and air corrector jet change. A viscous coupling between the fan and pulley allows the fan blades to idle when cold and spin near pulley speed when hot. Notoriously unreliable when aged, best get a standard nylon/plastic one and bolt to water pump pulley. Lot cheaper too.

yep ditch the viscous one as one to fit will be ancient
rads ..... note where outlets are on engine measure size of outlet pipes and get down the scrappy anything of roughly the same size engine will work but not too big 1.6 - 2.0 will be fine think my pinto has maybe a mk3 granada or sierra rad as its a rad with the tanks at the sides rather than at top bottom
still some sierras / granaadas in scrappys whereas are very few cortinas/capris
banger racing buddy? perhaps
may also be a source of pulleys too
yep one belt drives water pump and alternator
pully for water pump will be a try it and see if it lines up straight excercise
good luck!!!
