Hi
I wonder if someone could do me a favour.Does anyone have an spare Escort Mk1 rear brake drum that they could measure the depth of?
I've bought a set of new 8" diameter rear drums for my Jago but, while all the other dimensions are the same, the depth of the new drums is
1/4" less than the existing ones (at c.2 1/4". Present ones c.2 1/2" deep.). As far as I can see the the back axle is Escort Mk1. I'm not sure if the drums supplied are the right ones. The supplier doesn't seem hugely helpful saying that as it is a kit car I'll have to send my old drums to him to identify. As it took three days and a phone call to get the goods from him in the first place (having paid for next day delivery!) I would be happier if I could find out the depth before going back. Thanks.

Hi
I will check out the depth for you and get back to you as soon as possible.
May also be able to get you a reference number you can use.

OK I have a Mk1 Escort rear drum sitting on my desk here are the measurements.
Total depth (from surface the axle hub sits on to outer edge of drum is 2 1/2inches.
Depth of "braking surface of drum" 1 3/4 inches although usually the shoe works on around 1 1/2 inches of this area.
To assist you further a part number which can be used either as is or as a cross reference for the rear 8 inch drum for either Mk1 or Mk2 Escort is BF30.

Hope this information helps you get your Jago back on the road.

That's great - thanks for that. Makes me wonder what the drums he sent me are for. Anglia or similar maybe?
