I've got a 10 year old Geep that had an engine transplant shortly before I bought it. The "new" engine was from an old school transit 1600 X-flow: which transmissions 98 suggests is significantly lower on power than the escort.
Any ideas on whether a simple cam swap would improve matters or is it more complex.

PS a pair of kayaks strapped to the roof improves the aerodynamics immensely - not an everyday proposition tho' - a bit wet.

Hi
The Transit units are set up as low compression with a cam profile to suit.
The 16 xflow in a transit puts out 63bhp whereas the Escort unit puts out 84bhp.
Yes it can be uprated by fitting a BCF2 cam and a twin choke webber.

You must fit new followers at the very least.
It is possible to get a cam kit which as well as the cam has new valve springs.

A useful supplier of these parts is Ian Harwood in Ellesmere Port whose phone number is 0151 3392801.
He is open Tuesday to Saturday and can do mail order.
