My geep has the early (i think) windowless softop and wire framed doors. Can I get hold of the nicer looking later softop n doors and fit them straight on? Or at least the doors. Also my present door mounts are missing from the body, where can I get sum, or should I just make em up by welding tube to plate etc? Since buyin my geep off ebay a couple of weeks ago , I've sorted out the wiring(by ripping most of it out! and sorting earthing ), got all the lights etc working and got it running quite nicely. The only question mark is over the auto box fitted to the 1300 xflow, if its a duffer anyone know if a Mk1 or 2 manual box and flywheel etc is best? I just cant remember what fits what with old Fords, I've been mechanicing so long, but i gotta say its a breath of fresh air working on this when u r used to EFI,ABS,ETC,CLIMATE etc etc
Im taking it your won the yellow flat wing geep from ebay!?!?!? I have an old geep with the same roof as your 1(if it is the yellow 1) The doors I have on mine are off a Mahindra jeep!! They do overlap the body work at the bottom of the doors but I find they keep the air out as a result so not all bad!! To get them to fit I welded some 1cm tubing to a flat piece of steel and screwed the plates on the body work!! All in all it doesnt look to bad either!!

Yes as it has been pointed out the Mahindra doors do fit.
You could in theory fit the later top and doors as the main body shape around the door opening did not change that much.
The tube and plate welded together method is by far the easiest and if done well looks fine for providing the hinging points for the doors.
Yes you can convert the 1300 xflow back to a manual by changing the flywheel (remember to fit a spigot bearing in the back of the crank shaft or the input shaft of the manual box will object having load placed on the front bearing)and fitting the standard four speed Escort Mk1 or Mk2 gearbox.
If the engine was a 1600 or the upgraded version which usually ends up as a 1700/1750 then you could also choose to fit the 1600 OHC Sierra Type 9 5 speed box.
However the 1300 would not really make the best use of the fifth gear as it would labour to much.
The pedal box would either need swapping for the manual version unless the configuration of the box allows the clutch pedal to be added (on the Mk2 Escort the clutch pedal was on the outside of the box but the Mk1 was inside the box).
Whether the propshaft front joint is the same I can not recall.

Hi all , I did my conversion, took me all day but it was so worth it and cost me just over a 100 quid and thats with a brand new clutch! Thanks to Ian Harwood for a box and all the other little bits for £55 It goes so much better now. Just gotta find a wiper rack and would be nice to have some hard doors and a later softop. Does anyone want some side steps in need of a clean up and paint? or a slipping auto box for reconning? Both cheap . Oh and by the way Footman James insurance TPFt £109 Cant be bad
