hi all!! whilst driving around my local town of kings lynn in norfolk yesturday i noticed a sign advertising an off road day today (easter sunday) in a local disused quary!! thinking about it when i got home and decided id have a crack at it!! id read that jago's were fairly good off road vehicle's but id never have guessed it being only a rear wheel drive escort at heart that the only thing at the meet that out done my little jago today would be an old landy series 2(obviously) and a little off road prepared fiat panda 4x4 with digger tyre's!! my little jago out done all the mitzi shoguns, izuzu troopers, all the little suzuki's and even a discovery(if only because he was affraid off scratching his car)!! Amazing!!!
nobody could believe there it was only a rear wheel drive!! a top day had!! hopefully maybe take it again 1day but do feel i may have put a little presure on her today!! we'l see!

Yes the first time I took my Geep "off roading" seriously was on a 4x4 fun day. As you say often folks find it difficult to believe they are just rear wheel drive.
I remember at one point two land rovers and a daihatsu boxed me in and stopped me and I thought I was about to get a telling off for doing something wrong. But it was just that they wanted to know what running gear it had as they thought it had been modified some how to be a 4x4.
We used to have the off road course booked for the sunday evening at Stoneleigh kit car show for a couple of hours but it got that we were paying for the course and no owners wanted to use it a part from me.
This of course made it an expensive evening for the club so we stopped booking it.

My Geep (before being taken out of service for its on going rebuild/modify) was used regularly off road for logging trips often pulling a trailer across fields and tracks.

I am sure that the course has not been booked this year.

As I say we found members did not want to use it so as it cost quite a lot to hire it and also the problem of "policing it" to stop other folks using it which not only meant we were in effect paying for anyone else to "have a go" but risked the club being refused its use if the organisers found others on there.

This situation could possibly be rethought if members clearly expressed an interest in off roading and were willing to support such events in adequate numbers.(rather than just tick boxes and not support events)
We have had situations when we have had an off road club actually modify their insurance cover to allow our members to attend and take part and no one showed making such offers more difficult to be given again.
Look out for possible events when T4x4 is back in action.
