£20 of petrol not £20.01

Recently it seems impossible to buy a "round figure" of petrol!
Particularly with the newest pumps, £19.96-97-98- £20.01
AND the other day at the BP just off J8 of the M1 I released the pump trigger, removed the nozzle from the car
and watched the price slowly increase from the round figure to THIRTEEN pence more while NOTHING was coming out of the nozzle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This has actually happened in other stations by a couple of pence, when I`ve questioned it I`ve been given the LAMEST explanations
such as - Well it`s for the fuel that is in the pipe!

Has anyone else noticed this or has it been done to death on here and I havn`t seen it?
Is this a "recalibration" for all the 1p overs that customers have done for years or and incentive for us to fill to the next round figure!
I`m sure lots of people just fill there tanks to the top but it`s the principle, PARTICULARLY WHEN NOTHING IS COMING OUT BUT THE COST CLICKS ON!!!!!!!!!!

there is a local garage to me that as i put the nozzle back into the pump after filling it up clicked on by a penny, now i know thats not much these days, but as the fuel cut off is in the handle not in the pump itself and i was putting it back in, what was it measuring that i had used or taken?
seems that they were set very delicately and it was done on purpose as trading standards got involved (not me) and had a go.
now they not only have a bit of a reputation locally, but they have gone from being one of the cheapest stations in the area, to being at least a penny or 2 more expensive compared to the local supermarkets, which they used to undercut.
popped in there the other day (they have a service till there, and milk is cheap) and the guy serving was saying that the owner had moaned that takings were down, yet he could cut 2p a litre off and still make a mint (franchise?) but won't.
i also met a mate once who was causing a stir at the local asda pumps as it swore he had put in (can't remember the exact amount) 40 litres, in a car with a 55 litre tank that had been saying just over half full. asda called the police as he wouldn't pay, the police called trading standards who checked the pumps to find an anomaly on this one pump, then worked out they had over charge a few hundred people over a few weeks and only my mate had noticed and complained. just as well he stuck to his guns.

Yes, I've found it so, recently, difficult, nay, impossible to hit that .00 figure.
It's a very male peccadillo.
Even so, it is a well known scam that bags the station at least a few hundred extra/week, a lot more if a busy location.
Redolent of those bank workers who cream a few pence off accounts.
The fact we don't bother about it makes it the perfect crime.

When i'm putting diesel in the snotter I always use the local ASDA.
I can't no matter how I try, get the pump to increase by a penny a time as I fuel the van. If i'm a penny over they let it go if i'm paying cash.
Is it also fair to think that the pumps are not that accurate with todays high prices?
They must obviously be able to set the speed that the pump delivers to slow it down to make the customer think they got a fair amount of fuel.

I heard an urban legend that they set the pumps to do this, as many people, on missing the mark they were aiming for either go to the next round number (eg. I've hit 20.01 so I'll go to 25) or just fill the tank, hence they sell extra petrol.
No idea how true it is but not inconceivable.
Here in Thailand there aren't many self service petrol stations, and nearly all the pumps have buttons on to pre-set how much you want. And they don't very often go over!
