Getting some very bad feelings about Vaxhall, in a very short time frame we had the head of GM Europe kick off about the lack of turn-a-round to Profit of Opel/Vauxhall.

He been to see Merkel, whom than made a panic call the VW...(Polito's love to try to palm off problems). VW (we think) told her to get lost. Suddenly Vince Cable high tales it to GM HQ. The story is he gone to lobby for Volt production on Meresyside plant.....but that may not be the case.

With Saab now looking less & less like making it (Yes, everyday a NEW break though/but no money)The rest of GM Europe looks very Bad, yes their selling fine but they making very little profit...& now comes the time for GM to invest BIG time...& they don't wish to.

I also notice the GM is pushing Chevy hard & MG is going to be sharing their engines & platforms in the years ahead........i think bad news is coming.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken, the Chevrolet range is just rebadged Daewoos? Not really direct rivals to Vauxhall/Opel. I think it'd be a mistake to pull the plug on what is ultimately one of Britain's (and I presume Europe, too) best selling car brands.

Have you seen them spend any money recently on decorating, refitting offices or buying new or upgrading existing machinery? If so, then your prediction may be correct...

They can't make any money off it, they are about to KILL Saab off & watch to see the reaction. I suspect very little, at that point Opel/Vauxhall are as dead as a tin of Spam!

They just ship in Chevy (BTW the Cruze IS a reskin of todays Astra).

Considering the amount you see on the roads how are they not making a profit? I do wonder if rebadging them as Opels might redress their somewhat dismal image

Yes, i would have done that at the end of the 70's when Opel was VERY cool (like Audi today). Opel Mantra 400 "Flying" though the Forests with Jimmy Mc cray etc.....

Can't see anyway out now, only chance is if Merc bought them.....But Merc only wants Aston, done a deal with Renault ref its FWD cars...

I don't understand badge bores that continually slag-off Vauxhall even though they have a range of very competitive cars. Say we're looking at 2.0-litre diesels for Joe Bloggs: I'd much rather have a new Astra Elite than an Audi A3!

Love Monaros, VXR8s, the hatchbacks in VXR guise, VX220 etc. but find standard stuff such as the Insignificant a bit of a bore...

But is it really any less interesting than an Accord / Passat?

Really?

- Playing Devil's Advocate here, I'd say the VXR was significantly more.

I think youi're right and most mainstream Manufacturers seem to have a 'bore-range' which are totally functional -using a 520d as a daily driver probably plonks me in the middle of them too (hence my current need for a VXR8/Monaro/Other for the weekend biggrin).

Though having said that, Evo gave the latest Astra a 4/5. Yes; Evo. yikes

Oh, and Monaros are fantastic value at the moment...shame I'm 22! laugh
