New Tigra
People queueing up to buy them say Vauxhall
Vauxhall launched their new Tigra coupe/cabriolet at the show this week. It's expected to outstrip demand when it reaches showrooms in September.
More than 200 motorists have offered deposits for the car, priced between £13,750 and £15,750, before the official order book opened. Vauxhall is expecting to sell 5,000 French-built Tigras a year.
Vauxhall's Chairman claimed "I think Tigra volumes will exceed expectations. People should come to the show to see it live because it hits the spot. Dealers are a pretty blasé bunch but when we showed it to them recently we virtually had to drag them away."
The Tigra is being built by specialist French coachbuilder Heuliez in Cerizay and will use a variety of engines from 1.4 to 1.8-litres.
If the previous model was anything to go by, then residuals should be good.
Whether or not people believe the propaganda about 'people queing to buy it' from Vauxhall is another matter.
It is definately a car I would consider for my partner.

Is this supposed to be like this? I.e. there'll be far more supply than demand? The supply will outstrip demand?
if so. Or perhaps not?
*gets coat...*
It's like saying: "The French? Loathe them or hate them, they're our closest neighbours," as Viz once wrote. Had to read it twice to get the subtlety.

The first manufacturer to produce an MX5 equivalent with a retracting hardtop will surely clean up. (I suppose you could say that's what MB did with the SLK... but why hasn't there been any response from the likes of Mazda, MG, Honda, etc.?)

Why can't this piece of crap be built in the UK? Have we lost all our engineering skills now?
grrrrrr!!
Vauxhall = Opel = German
Ah, make the Tigra a short and kinda nice fwd fw-engined VX and it will sell, not only to hairdressers . . . . Loads of pepped up Tigras drive up and down here in Holland. Mostly girls in it . . . off course its a Corsa, ever saw a bloke in one?
Vauxhall dealers would get excited wouldn't they? For a start look what they've got to sell now, they know how well the ugly litle 206CC sells and all they can think about is the wall to wall tussage in short skirts and plunging cleavages that are going to be crawling into the showroom. "Ooh yes, young lady, bend over and look at the pedals" (steps back)"Lovely isn't it"
700 deposits already taken against the 1000 being supplied for 2004 apparently - it's that 'wow' factor for under £15K that'll make it a good seller.
