Sandbach on the M6 is also a sthole. North-bound there is a 'The Burger Company' which I wrongly thought was going to be a refreshing change to your usual BK, KFC or McDs... Never again!!!

The local ones up the A9 (as close to the motorway as you will get in the highlands) are nice - there is even a guy there to fill your car up for you!

When I saw this thread, my first thought was Medway! It looks like somewhere in East Germany when I was there in the early 80's

The last time I was there all they had were portaloos which were rank.

I'd sooner piss my pants than stop there again!

Tebay (M6) is pretty good.

I tend to use off route stops where I can and only use the services if I have to.

Exactly my thoughts when we pulled in!
Or a Russian outpost left over from the Cold War

Tamworth services on the M42 not to bad when you first get there, but the smell in the toilet, would rather find just go behind a tree.

I've also made the same mistake of "the burger company" expensive an worse than any other of the usual food places.

A bit off topic but is Costa really considered to be chav? Starbucks is st and chav IMO but Costa, whilst now everywhere and popular, is generally not a bad coffee. It's consistently decent in my experience. Not the best but reliable.

^^ Can't answer that because I've never been in either. My question is, what ever happened to a nice cup of tea?

M25 Clacket Lane... either direction... now somewhat refurbished, however, they didn't touch the bogs; I've been in sheep sheds which smelled better after a season's lambing action.

Balinluig Motor Grill just off the A9, is fab, great service, proper fry up type food and mugs of tea very reasonably priced. I stopped there on my honeymoon, not that common an occurence I wouldn't think!

I live a couple of miles from the Medway services, and we have band practice about 500m from it every week - so I know it exceptionally well. It is truly, truly horrific yes

Agreed. The best bit is they think they can charge motorway prices for food there! They should be paying US to go there!

Aparently it used to be ok years ago, allot of the local youth hung out there. But I doubt its even seen a lick of paint since then!

The Lakeside services are also minging. Who the hell stays there anyway? the whole place is shocking, hotel included.
