Are there any members of the Classic Car Club here? Is it as good as it looks (membership deal on PH home page)? There's a wide mix of cars but it nearly sounds worth it just for the 996 for a weekend. Anyone got any experiences or views about it as I wunna join the new one in Bristol?

If I'd found this earlier in the year I might well ahve gone for it, as it is I've already laid out a deposit etc on a new motor so its a no go. Spoken to the guys on the e-mail and they are incredibly helpful and seem to really know their stuff, so I can't see a catch.

I've been a member of their London club for a year now and have only got praise for them. They are pretty efficient and very helpful, all the guys know their cars very well and are true enthusiasts.

One thing you do have to realise though is that not all the cars are concours - they are kept mechanically right, but do get used. We went to Le Mans last year in their Caterham 7 and it was great fun, but the exhaust mount broke, so we just lashed it up with a bungy cord thingy until we got home - they were fine about it and just fixed it, this year going down in their brand new 911 Carera Cabriolet, great fun.

And as you say, renting a 996 for a w/e would be best part of a grand on its own....

I'm thinking about this for my returns to England, mobility plus top-notch motors, definitely on my list of possibilities!

Kevinday - you might want to consider their overseas membership package which is what I've got. Basically you get the same amount of points for one year, but spread over two, for the price of one year's membership, spread over two years.

Not explained that very well, but if you look at their web-site you'll get the idea. Its great fun getting into Gatwick or Heathrow and going and picking up something a bit special in the vehicular sense of the word, actually its great fun getting into HR or GW... lets no go there!

Thanks for this info, looks very tempting!

Hi, Interested to see postings about Classic Car Club, I have been considering joining, haven't really got round to it yet. It prompted me to have a look at the website and I notice there is an open weekend this Saturday at ther branch in Woking. I suppose I should really pop down and have a look to see the cars for myself. I read about the Club in an article in the FT I think some months ago, they seemed to rave about it, so It must be quite good. Seeing an actual member post very positive views about things is much more relevant however.
I think I need to find out about the ability to use cars from all the other branches before I commit!

I'm afraid I don't know much about the different cars at different locations, so can't really comment on that. I would suggest you go to their open day and have a chat with them, they are a friendly bunch and more than willing to discuss things with you.

You will notice that maintenance of their web-site is slow - I don't think its particularly high on their priority list, but they seem to be pretty efficient when you want to book a car or whatever, even if you use e-mail, which I do mainly (phone calls are quite expensive from here).

Main thing that attracted me was they don't seem to want to rip you off re dodgy insurance excess claims - I had heard that some other hirers of cars can go over the car with extreme scrutiny when you return tham and claim an insurance excess for damage you supposedly caused. No guarantees on anything, just my comments on the club

Thanks folks. Reckon I'll look into it a bit more. Good news that the guys on the end of the phone seem to be on the right planet. FYI open days at their Woking branch this weekend.

Well, I've just been down to Woking to have a look at what's on offer and having spoken to the guys there, I'm very sorely tempted..

The guys are friendly and happy to talk about the cars all day. They do all of their own maintenance on the (classic) cars so they know the things inside & out. They've picked up some remarkable examples too, IMO.

Hoping to drag the missus down there tomorrow to evangelise the merits of this idea

Carzee, did you go for it in the end - what did the missus say?

I haven't been back this year and understand they've got some nice new motors in - anything that stood out in particular? I like the sound of their E-type Roadster I must say..

Not at present.. sometimes, you just have to keep your money in your pocket until another day.. I dearly wanted to though..

I've not abandoned the idea, just postponed the decision until a more financially suitable time.

Errmm yes.. some peachy motors.. the E-Type is just beautiful.. very tasty..

They've just got a Stag which surprisingly, seems to be in great condition..
