Integrated Transport

New pen pushers appointed to pointless commission

Alistair Darling, Secretary of State for Transport has appointed David Leeder as the new Vice-Chair of the Commission for Integrated Transport. David takes over from Sir Trevor Chinn whose appointment concludes on 30 June.

The Secretary of State has also appointed Garrett Emmerson, Peter Hendy and Richard Turner as members of the Commission.

All the appointments will begin on 1 July 2004 and will run for a period of three years.

No doubt that will have a startling effect on our 'integrated transport system'

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

David Leeder

Managing Director of First Group plc and UK Bus and President of the Confederation of Passenger Transport

Garrett Emmerson.

Would that be: Head of Transportation, Buckinghamshire County Council?

Peter Hendy

Would that be: Managing Director for Surface Transport, Transport for London?

And, in the interest of balance:

Richard Turner

Would that be: Chief Executive, Freight Transport Association?

Which represents rail as well as road?

Interestingly, when you look at the membership of the Commission, they're not all lentil-munching rail supporters.

For example, there's:

Stewart Francis - Directorships: Chairman of Lite FM; Director of Francis Vincent Media.

aka:

Other: Chairman of the Rail Passengers' Council, Chairman of Norfolk, Suffolk, and Cambridgeshire Strategic Health Authority. Shares: UKRD Group.

and:

Michael Roberts,
Director of Business Environment, Confederation of British Industry (CBI)

aka:

Michael Roberts - Directorships: Director of Business Environment, CBI; Director of the Carbon Trust. Other: Member of: National Trust, Green Alliance.
