Mr Byers appears to be backpedalling furiously. We even get a quote from Brian Gregory - did anybody hear him on "Today"?, I managed to miss that.

Byers represents all that we hate in some politicians; dishonesty and incompetence laced with a hefty dose of arrogance.
While he should have resigned some time ago, the longer he remains part of Bliar's government the more damage it will do to Mr President, which can only be good news.
Depite what it says in the article, the words "leopard", "change" and "spots" spring to mind.

What really infuriates me is that the BBC always have to put in a response from the green bastards. Who f'in cares what they think? Why not go and sak the bleedin Dolphins? Or better still "Several bits of old newsprint lying in a bin outside Westminster were pleased with Mr Byers candid and honest statement"

Fundamental problem is that cars are too good compared with the alternatives. Too cheap, comfortable, versatile - you name it.
Government solution - f**k up cars to make travelling by road as crap as the rest of their f**ked up system.
Steve's solution - improve the quality of the alternatives so people might actually want to use them.
Problems with money? Easy.
Step 1, stop the government from pouring billions down the toilet with stupid management schemes, quangoes etc. etc.
Step 2, get all these timewasting civil service types out there in chain gangs working on the railroad - it'll get them fit as well
Result 1 - large numbers of numpties, trucks, shed-pullers etc. all f**k off onto railways, bicycles, skateboards, spacehoppers or whatever.
Result 2 - loads of space on the roads for those of us who drive cars because we like them to go out and play.
'kin problem solved. Why is it so difficult?
