Citroën C4

New coupe and hatchback from the French

Citroën has revealed first official pictures of the stunning new C4, ahead of its world debut at this year’s Paris Motor Show (23 September – 10 October).

The new Citroën C4 will be presented in two distinctively different bodystyles, and will introduce several innovations.

The Coupé makes a bold statement whilst the Hatchback is more conventional. In both cases, the sweeping contours make for good aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of just 0.28.

The new Citroën C4 will also boast other advanced safety features, such as an involuntary lane-departure warning system, designed to help prevent drivers from losing concentration or falling asleep at the wheel, as well as moving, dual-function directional Xenon headlamps, which provide improved lighting when cornering.

Other equipment includes a speed limiter and low tyre pressure warning system. On top of this, the new C4 is also set to be the only car in the class to offer laminated glass side windows designed to provide maximum protection against break-ins and to improve sound deadening.

Powering the new C4 will be a wide range of the Company’s very latest petrol and HDi common rail diesel engines, most of which will meet Euro IV emission standards, offering a broad range of performance - from 90hp to 180hp for petrol and 92hp to 138hp for diesel.

The grey one looks good. The rear of the coupe looks crap - The rear spoiler looks out of place. The back also reminds me of that little Merc coupe.

Looks a bit like a Smart Coupe/Toyota Prius hybrid - and neither of those are too pleasing on the eye. I like the hatch though.

The 3 door reminds me of a cross between the old Citroen GS and the MKII CRX. I like it.

So why not reverse the drivetrain so that it sits aft the front axle line instead of doing a Cyrano de Bergerac on every new FWD saloon/hatchback/estate thingy? Should be good for handling, too...

takes up more road space (i.e. engine compartment has to be bigger) and there is also this current daft trend amongst stylists for the mpw-like hatches...

MMMmmmmmmm.... nice spoiler. That'll appeal to the Proton-driving slippers-and-Daily-Mail brigade. Oh yes. They love their 'functional' spoilers on mediocre cars...

The system monitors the white line on the road and if you drift across it , brakes and applies corrective steering - scary? Not half as scary as the new System that lets you drive without using your feet! ( Active cruise control - Mercedes I think)
Spoiler - there;s an option to fit a larger one if you don't like the standard fit.
Wife who owns a current Xsara ( bless her) can't wait to replace her current model with the new one!

I don't mind it, but I hate the way they make the Citroen badge into a 'tache

Not sure if it brakes or steers for you - I think it just vibrates the driver's seat.

It also only cuts in if you don't indicate when changing lanes, which might improve some drivers'indicator habits, although I suspect that most people will probably just turn it off (which you can do).
