If they vote to strike, would suggest it will be over the Easter weekend.

Stanlow drivers have not recieved ballot papers yet, so can't see it happening this week. On top of which, the main haulier has reached a five year deal with it's drivers. They appear to be doing rather well...
Can't help thinking this news has been manipulated to start a little panic buying, volumes of fuel leaving the terminal seem to be down. I help maintain the fleet, it has been downsized considerably compared to 10 years ago. From the horses mouth, it's the supermarket's drivers who are'nt on such a good deal finacially. The dispute is about everyone getting the same deal, on the face of it fair enough; or so i thought til i heard how much they earn and for what.
The winners will be the oil companies (again)...

Panic buying has started. I wanted to get some juice for the lawnmower on the way home from work but the queue was stupid so I went home.

When I was at college juice was 35p a gallon (I am old)

All the local stations have put their prices up 3-4p in the past week to exploit the fears about this strike and panic-buying. Good job I can come on public transport. biggrin

2 things - firstly, if they do strike then in a way it will be good - Len Scargill Mcklusky and Red Ed Millipede will be able to watch theur last vestiges of public support and sympathy come crashing down around their ears and in future nobody will take them seriously.

Secondly.... over the easter weekend there happens to be a 1000 Land rover convoy going on in Leicestershire to raise a large sum of money for the charity Help The Heroes. A tanker strike may well scupper this as people coming form the length and breadth of the country will not have enough fuel to make the trip.
I therefore wonder how the news headlines would look if it got out that militant communists had effectively prevented a charity close to many peoples hearts getting many thousands of pounds? whistle

When I was 18 I could borrow my dad's Vauxhall Victor 2000, (the FD coke bottle shape), and go to Southport from our home in Liverpool on a Saturday night providing I put £1.00 petrol in the tank!

When I was sixteen petrol was 4shillings and 9pence (about 24p in today's money) per gallon.

PETROL PRICES 1896 TO PRESENT (average price per gallon per year + tax content)

I think it's a rather broader subject than you suggest. It might be an idea to pick up a newspaper to get a little more perspective on what is a fairly complex and undoubtedly important isssue.

Yeah, because the Newspapers always tell us exactly what the true facts are. Always, 100%.

Frankly I am struggling to see what on earth a Tanker Driver has to complain about??? What are these terrible 'conditions'? <insert clown face dufuss smiley>

Again, does anyone know what these terrible 'conditions' are that the drivers don't like?
