Just got back from the jubilee celebrations at the palace, what a performance. A fantastic night, and one worthy of our monarch and this great nation of ours.

Long may she reign

Why are we paying the royal family huge sums of cash each year when our infastructure, schools and NHS are in a third world mess? The queen recieves a private income of seven million pounds a year from her ridiculously huge property rental. Yet we still pay out millions on top of this, to loads of them. The rest of the hangers on and massive extended family can die in a horrific plane accident as far as I'm concerned.

Easy, because there are thousands nay millions of numptie visitors who want to go "OOOOOHHH" at the changing of the guard, pay ridiculous sums to visit Buckingham palace, see the crown jewels etc etc etc. However much you might not like them, they are the biggest tourist attraction in Britain. Who would ever travel to Washington to see an uneducated texan oilfarmer? or to Moscow to see a failed forces minor officer and Secret Service monster?? However much you hate them they're a MASSIVE tourist attraction and that brings wealth to the country............
P.S. I used to be a royalist (even swore loyalty in my uniform then) until I saw the family infighting, exemplary (bad) child upbringing and marriage faithfulness icons that they are! I'd not get rid of them though, as a President will never be as they can be for the country. Can you really imagine a Tony Benn, Tony Blair, or RedKen as President of the UK? I'd rather shoot the b++++++s than see that.

Actually quite a lot the whitehouse gets lots of tourists as well you know.

I don't see why we need royals esp. so many, the private wage thing also seems rediculous when has the queen needed to pay for anything?

Also, was I the only one that saw the irony in using John Lennons song across the country seeing as he returned his OBE?

I'm too young for that one! Why did he return it? I'm guessing he was no fan of the establishment.

Sorry my mistake it was an MBE not OBE (same difference) the reason he returned it in 1969 in protest over Vietnam, and Biafra.

All the beatles got an MBE for "services to the export industry".

Amazing what you can find on the web

So no-one ever goes to see Versailles, even though the French had the good sense to get rid of their lot 200+ years ago? Nothing listed above would disappear, and lose tourist income, just because one family called Windsor went into the mincer... We could even spread rumours that one managed to get away, and have our own Anastasia claims for years.

True. People come here to look at the architecture: The Tower, London Bridge etc, not watch the queen walk the dogs. Just as many pesky foreigners would clog up Oxford street, you can be assured of that. I'm sure if they economise the important royals (Ha!) could survive on the 7 million private income alone, without our help too. Feckin joke! The aristocricy only exists as they stole all the land in the first place. Bloody spongers. Why is it us poor lot in the middle support all the scrotes at one end and these indulged muppets at the other?!

Hear hear! Sack the lot of them and let's have a Prez. At least if the unwashed elected a scrotum, we'd be able to get rid of him/her after a few years...

You ungrateful, envious, negative bunch!

The Royal Family makes a huge contribution to the stability and sanity of the nation. They work hard to get around the country through a sense of duty rather than because they are gloating over the have-nots. Just see the pleasure in peoples' eyes over this weekend. It isn't an easy life!

Yes, they do have faults, as any family does, especially whe under extreme pressure as they were through the diana problems.

Besides, what would you rather have - another of Tony's cronies?

So that'll be 275 million pounds of our money she's stashed away in her purse. Plus she lives (wastes) on 7 million pounds a year private income. Plus we give them millions more to live on, as that's clearly not enough for one old lady to exist on. Feck me, my nan lasts all month on a slice of toast and a cuppa.

Oh well, I suppose I should be thankfull for my job. I know my place in life. In fact I can't wait to get up at the crack of dawn and fight my way into work on our crumbling road and rail network.
