Yesterday they announced they would look into the petrol companies pricing policy re changes in oil prices ie quick to put petrol up , slow to take it down.
Three things
One is this a crafty divesrsion away from the planned price hike in a couple of months
Two interesting that it came out the day after the 'news' aboiut the EU upping the prices
Three pot/kettle who is raking in the most from us? LOOK IN THE MIRROR GREENING
Isnt it about time that we all wrote to our MP complaining about this and asking them to

Raise this in the house
Ask him WHY are we the highest prices in Europe?
Ask him to justify why we are the only country (apart from Norway) whose diesel price is higher than the petrol price per litre
Ask Why if the gov are now 'worried' they are not dropping their tax demands on us in this respect

Make the buggers work and put their replies on here



I have just about had enough on all these 'promises' that are intimated yet never followed through by people who have no idea what it is like at the bottom of the pond.
Makes you want to start up a new party with no ties to any organistion be it Big business or unions, just the common thinking people.

If only i could get 500 people in 500 constituencies to all chuck in a quid ( a small price to pay) who share the same ideas we could frighten these buggers into doing things we want

I wont rest until the questions are answered to my satisfaction, and not by one of his unpaid wannabe minions.

That one's easy - we don't charge less tax on diesel than on petrol, other countries do.

Because it is. Why would you expect it not to be?

(Some people expect it not to be more expensive because in many other European countries it is cheaper. In those countries, however, petrol is more highly taxed than diesel)

Diesel is more expensive than petrol because you get less of it from a barrel of oil when you refine it. As others have said, we charge the same rate, £0.6097 per litre, on both petrol and diesel. In France, for instance, the duty on petrol is €0.6069 per litre, but on diesel it's €0.4284 per litre.

Fuel taxation is NOT the main problem, just a by product of corporate greed/irresponsibility.

The main problem is people / companies NOT paying their taxes like the rest of us, and that is done legally, in agreement with HRMC, the Gvt and the parliament. Amazon, Philip Green, Vodafone etc etc etc.

If ALL loopholes were closed (including Luxembourg's absurd tax policies), then fiscal income for the Treasury may allow a little flexibility on fuel duty, but at the moment they can't give away money they haven't got.

Problem is this would jeopardise the Tax Avoidance Industry, and in particular the big 4s...

In France, if you're caught avoiding tax or VAT, you go to prison and you lose your shirt.

The main problem is the public wanting high public spending and imagining that there is always someone richer who can pick up the tab for them.

I wonder why, because Diesel is cheaper to produce than Petrol. Simple really. I general terms, I expect a product that is cheap to make, should cost less than a rival product that costs more to make. It always used to be cheaper to buy diesel, until of course, there were lots of people buying diesel cars. then the price shot up. Funny that! perhaps Bob Diamond had something to do with fixing the price of diesel too??? Some tt did!
