Trimmed in carbon fiber and alcantara, it features two readouts to convey all sorts of vehicle information. Two color LED strips at 11 and 1 o'clock swing from green to red with engine rpm to serve as a shift light, and they can also be reconfigured to act as a drag-strip Christmas tree for timing your quarter-mile mile runs.

A small LCD display sits at 12 o'clock, and can be set up to convey everything from vehicle speed and g-load to oil and coolant temperature.

BMW offers the wheels on 1 Series, 3 Series and M cars built since 2006, and the upgrade will set you back $1,700.

Not sure about previous versions actually. This story has turned up on various blogs/sites so I thought I'd stick it on here too. I treat the Motoring News section as an aggregate blog area.

Go on, you go first smile

Your OP is basically just an advert for the wheel, no asking for opinions or anything. How are we supposed to know the purpose of your thread.

I'd have expected something like 'Thinking of buying one of these for my 116i/330D/M3, have any PHers fitted one, if so what do you think?'

Or 'Just got one of these fitted and it's awesome!'

If that was the case then I would have posted in the 'BMW' section and not in the 'Motoring News' section. This is just a story that was on Autoblog and then re-blogged on Engadget over the last couple of days or so.

It has been out for around 6 years, was slightly different though, the original looked better.

To be brutally honest. It looks like overpriced "tat" to me. I'm and avid fan of BMW's of which I have two. But even if my 6 numbers came up I would not invest in this steering device with bells on it. Sorry guys & girls.
