Glad to hear they are continuing, it is a real shame what happened but the risks are there and drivers are aware of them. At the end of the day that's motor racing.

yes but why did he die, could an F1 car protect a driver from this kind of accident, could this class of car be made safer?

I've always thought it mad that the FIA regulations call for open cockpit sportscars (except those in the Le mans prototype class). They offer no protection to a driver when a car somersaults into a crash barrier.

Nor do many forms of motorsport - even a kart could kill you if you're not careful. That's motorsport, it's dangerous, it's supposed to be. Bungee jumping wouldn't be anywhere as popular if they put a safety net under you. It's the danger that gets us - man against the danger that's what gets the adrenalin going. There's nothing wrong with that!

Given that the chances of an F1 driver being killed during a race is 1 in 6800 and the chance of you dying on the road is roughly 1 in 4500, following the danger / adrenaling logic. Driving a Micra down your local high street gets the adrenalin buzzing more than a lap of Silverstone in an F1 car. If you really want a buzz take up spoking (1 in 50) over a 40 year period. Must be flaw in that logic. Edited by AdamB on Friday 4th May 12:14

I get where you're coming from Dubbs but would you still have 50's/60's/70's style cars that killed drivers on a regular basis. In those days it was a blood sport and spectators knew they would see a fatality.....or is that what you're into
