Just heard on the Radio 2 news that "...police in Spain have stopped around 50 cars including Porsches Ferraris and a Rolls Royce taking part in an illegal race from London..."

Apologies if this has been posted couldn't see anything though.

Anyone know anything further...?

Sounds like they are being treated in a similar manner to those detained in Spain on the Gumball a few months ago.

What happened to the Gumballers Daz...? Wrist slap and bugger off or was it big fines and impounding...?

Either way, hope it all gets going again without too many problems.

There are threads running in General TVR.
www.t350r.co.uk has updates from some PHeader's having a crack at it but www.cannonballruneurope.co.uk/live.asp mysteriously went offline about the same time the Spannish Police pounced.

Most cars were stopped and fined for having a number on their car (think about 300 euros per car).

Four drivers got detained in jail for 36 hours then released.

I had a quick look at the Cannonball site earlier today and one of the headlines was the report that a Gallardo was caught doing 190 mph in France. It was detained for several hours and the driver got fined a grand or two.

If some of them are seriously trying to tackle speeds like that, it is no surprise that the Police are coming down hard.

After all, can you imagine the flack the local police would get if the Gallardo wiped out a young family at those speeds and they had not acted against the drivers beforehand?

They should get Sheriff John Bunnell on to them.

Those Four wheeled Felons will end up going straight to jail!

It was 3 days actually. Then in front of the judge in Tarragona charged not with speeding, but with endandering life on the motorway and road racing. The penalty for that if we were found guilty was "proper" jail time.

The reason that I have not done the Cannonball this year. The Spanish Cop's and I just don't see eye to eye......

Ooops. Sorry Rob, I read 36 hours somewhere. I can understand the Spanish court not being able to prove yourself and the other three drivers endangering life, but how did they not find you guilty of road racing? (four cars doing 200/320 kmh or three times the limit liveried up like racing cars) Incidently, did they try charging the passengers in the four cars with anything?

Europe must have become a no go for these types of events where the organisers court publicity, media attention and give out details of the route in advance. It must make more sense to do these events informally with fewer cars without them covered in logos etc.

BTW - I understand your GT2 is seriously modded on the BHP front. I don't know if you have addressed the potential issue of the plastic shift link at the base of the gear stick, but this thread may be of interest:
