Seems they have shut their doors, dont know the full story but is this a sign of the times for small traders?
never dealt with them but always liked their cars and services, seemed like a bunch of enthusiasts to me.

I don't agree that it's so much a sign of the times but a consequence of enthusiasts trying to earn a living from their hobby by trying to sell cars at a price that despite the inflated price of classics, is considered by most to be just too expensive.
I'm assuming that they failed as a result of insufficient sales at sufficient margin but for all I know, Mr Eclectic could have run off in the night with a bag of money.
The economy is awash with money that people don't know what to do with and at times like this, classics are a good excuse to "invest". If dealers can't sell now, they don't deserve to be in business.
I'm no trader but even I am getting a good investment from the cars I play with and I'm the bloke who put his money on red when the ball landed on black.

I met Stuart (the owner of Eclectic cars) last year when I was searching for a classic. Whilst I ended up buying mine elsewhere purely because he didn't have anything that fitted my needs at the time I've been checking his site regularly ever since looking for anything of interest.
When I spent an hour or so with him he came across as a pleasant, genuine and astute chap. Very enthusiastic. I was sad to see that he had closed his doors.
His prices were a tad high though that can't be denied. His set up was very smart and the cars seemed to be in excellent condition (I'm no expert).
I emailed him a few days ago wishing him well to both his business and webmail addresses and haven't had a reply. Hope it was closed for business and not personal (health etc) reasons.

Looks like it's as simple as it wasn't a profitable business.
