That is so funny. People on public transport are more likely to be depressed, ill and obese. Last time I cought a bus, it was raining I got cold and wet, some twat coughed and spluttered down my neck for much of the journey, so I bought a Mars bar to cheer myself up.

So I shouldn't have bought a diesel hatchback. Must admit I was much happier driving the MR2, even though I had to keep forking out for repair bills.

So if you're feeling a bit down, the cure is a decent fast car....

Possibly more truth in that than you may think. People at work keep asking me why I don't just get a diesel Co Car instead of running the Honda (although the only real costs are Petrol at 15ppm and a bit of depreciation - when you are doing 30k a year it does mount up ). Thing is, you never know when you want to get your toe down, so best to be driving something deserving when the urge comes upon you

Certainly true. The vectra depresses me, public transport even more so.

At least my current commute consists of from bedroom via bathroom and kitchen to my study so having a boring car matters less.

Also the vectra is used for towing my seven so it's not all bad...

The Times said:
The evidence was unearthed last year and is reported by the Medical Research Council’s social and public health sciences unit in Glasgow. Ironically, the purpose of the report was to reduce our reliance on private cars and to promote public transport, but instead it found that car drivers benefited from increased self-esteem, sense of security and control over their lives.

I hope Blair is reading this.

Fock with our cars and you fock with our self-esteem, sense of security and control over our lives.

This translates in to vote losses.

I suffer a bit from stress.

Not that I've been working that hard, but my last four years in education have been absolute crap and I've been feeling pretty low for a long, long time.

I was getting anxiety attacks a fair bit (still do to an extent but they're getting much better as I start to take control of my life) but always found that, when I was out driving, all that seemed to disappear.

It seems strange, given the fact that driving involves the constant assessment of calculated risks and the occaisional near-miss, but I actually find going out for a drive to be extremely theraputic.
