Discussion
Hello. I read with interest the article in the issue of The Daily Mail 1/12/04 "page 6" about the possible speed ban revisions.
I have been in contact with Skoda and the Dept of Transport since January 2004 ever since buying my Skoda Fabia estate because it does not show the figures relating to 30/50/70mph only tiny white marks.
According to Skoda and The Dept of Transport it meets EU regs. How can this be as there is no real way of knowing if the driver is going much too fast or just a bit or whatever and any possible speed convictions highly suspect. Because of a mechanical defect on my new car I was lent a new Octavia for four and a half weeks which has the correct markings. Any comments would be appreciated
Regards
You don't know your *exact* speed at all from looking at the speedo.
EU regs say the speedo *must* overread by 4KM/hr (2.5MPH) and can overread by up to 10%.
So at an exact 70MPH, your speedo could read anything between 63.6MPH and 67.5MPH.
I can never remember what effect tyre wear has on these figures (as it reduces the wheel diameter by 12mm or so).

Thanks for the replies. The silly thing is that Skoda are not consistant with their Speedos ie. I noticed a 02 octavia which had figures at 10/30/50/70. The 04 Octavia I was lent for 5 weeks whilst my jan 04 Fabia estate had to have it's engine rebuilt after 9000 mls had figures at all speeds!
