Sport Astra prices announced

But VXR doesn't arrive until summer

Vauxhall has announced prices for the Astra Sport Hatch, said to be a significant step forward in terms of driving dynamics and performance over previous versions. The three-door range starts at £13,795 but the more useful models is the 2.0i 16v Turbo with 170bhp with all the options, which tops out at £18,145.

Vauxhall reckons that only the SXI, SRi and Design trim levels will be offered, all fitted as standard with lowered sports suspension and alloy wheels. Petrol engines range from a 90bhp 1.4i up to the 170bhp 2-litre turbo. The 150bhp unit can offer moderate performance, with a 0-60mph time of 8.3 seconds, while the top of the range car, the 240bhp VXR, will go on sale in the summer.

Seriously nice looking car, in my humble opinion anyway. Way more interesting than the new focus/golf.

hey, does anybody know what sort of insurance group the 2.0 turbo will be? the 170bhp not the 240 one

Seems a bit odd - I have a 5 door SRi and its a 200hp turbo - surely the 3-door has this option? Insurance is 16 I think - for us £100 more per year than a 1.8 Vectra Estate by way of comparison..
