Tracker System, for kids
Discussion
Regardless of whether or not it's technically possible, is it right for children to be fitted with chips/transponders/whatever to enable them to be located, should they disappear? Obvious why this question has come up.
I can think of dozens of reasons why the idea sucks, but the arguments in favour, though emotive, are pretty powerful.

Whilst I agree with cazzo, the big brother thing is not a good idea. One thought: whats to stop a tracker in a watch or mobile phone (which I believe one of the girls owned). This isn't for Blair or government but for parents worried about their kids. People fit trackers to their cars, so why not another device? I know that these kinds of b*st*rds would get rid of these device but it would still lead to a route or more clues.
The phone will only last as long as the battery can stay awake...... which isn't long.
Nice idea, but not that practical and VERY Big Brotherish... unless you have a way to activate it in times of trouble only. Kinda like the emerganct transmitters on lifejackets, that only come on when wetted... Gotta be a market for it for any of you bright electronic whizz kids....

Saw an item on this, on the news on Tuesday. They apparently have them in the US already.
Wrist watch type thing (well about 10 times the size of a wrist watch).
But then again, its no different than electronic tagging for offenders.
If someone were to suggest this approach, then surely its just pandering to the old addage (if I can get it right) - fix the symtom, not the cause.

I agreee with Philshort. I hope the two missing girls are found well and soon, but if someone where to be caught, tried and convicted of child abduction and murder, they should be executed.
I cant believe I'm saying this as I'm usually against capital punishment. However if the proof is indisputable (DNA?) we should not fund their stay in prison but rather send a clear message that this kind of sick behavoir will lead to hanging. I would suggest hanging, drawing and quartering but I dont suppose the British public would go for it.

Wouldn't it just be simpler to make child abduction a hanging offence?
I'm sure as in the case of any major agrevated crimes that this is simply not enough, People still commit murder in areas where the death sentence is upheld ..
More importantly though, it doesnt bring back the deceased, It doesnt fix the pain and definately doesnt really "make it better". Sad fact is that the people who commit these type of agrevated crimes are for the most part chemically and mentally unstable and therefor dont give a sh*t about the punishment, In fact for some its the "excitement" of being caught that they are after, I suppose it's the sick cat and mouse type challenge that drives this type of maniac to abduct children ... They do not have the courage to take on adults, adults fight back.
They know that abducting children causes so much uproar and fear in community life that it fuels the fire even more in this sick individuals mind! IMHO there is no punishment befitting these people, death is too easy... And for every one you hang believe you me there is another ten of these animals ready to take his/her place ... One just cannot help feeling so very helpless!!
I would love to see medical testing done on sicko's like this, they are not human, they are not animal .. They are the dregs from the bottom of an abortion bucket!
I too have three children and live in fear that this would ever happen to m family!
My thoughs and prayers go out to the families of the missing children!
Another use for this would be to target youth crime.
"oh how terribly big brother" l hear you cry, but if children are not given the full criminal responsibilty for their actions then they should not have the benfit of authority and self determination over their actions that responsibility bestows.
When they turn 18, or 16 whatever floats yer boat, they can request it be removed. At the moment children who for whatever reason think they're 20 at the age of 12 don't have to take responsibility for their actions and get to do what they like.
In Japan this phenomena has taken a very sick twist with kids killing before the age of criminal responsibility "To see what it's like" before they can be punished as adults.
Just a thought/tangent.
