Sales of caravans are rising 7% per year. Caravan Club membership is at an all time high of 850 000. There are now 520 000 mobile caravans on the road. The boom is only eclipsed by sales of luxury motorhomes, which have soared by 70% since 1993. Nearly 6000 are expected to be sold this year.

Industry leaders attribute the trend to the 'yuppie' caravanner. Young professionals are attracted to the simplicity of life outdoors. Alan Bishop, of the National Caravan Council, described the resurgence as 'spectacular'. 'People are finally realising the caravan offers so much freedom. These are professionals with pressurised jobs and a caravan is a stress-free way of getting away from it all.'

'Its the 24-35 age group which is driving the boom because motorhomes are trendy things to have these days.'

Nooooooooooo.

What's wrong with young(ish) people these days?

I may be in the age group, but rest assured, I am NOT one of the guilty parties... bloody things are a damned menace on the roads!

How very outdoors. At most, 50 yds from a strip of tarmac, sitting in a parody of a living room. Whoopee. Real adventure.

NOT!

I do not subscribe to the caravite demographic (look CarZee I made another one up!!).
Anyway the griff would look daft with a tow hook (unless I was towing a jetski Hmmm..)

I am in that age group and whilst I would use one for Glastonbury week I wouldnt be seen dead even near one.

Whats wrong with hotels?

I can honestly say that I have never ever met anyone who has even thought that they may at some point in the future express even the slightest interest in buying one of these. In fact if one of my friends expressed interest in one there would be quite a high chance of me sectioning them.

FFS Rocco Forte does a perfectly good job so why turn yourself into a pikey just to go to the south of france for a week.

Matt.

Well, we've almost got everyone pigeonholed now..

17-24 = Max Power Boys
25-34 = Caravanners
35-50 = Meldrews
50+ = Smells of pee

Is there anyone I've missed?

Come on - we're *all* in one of those age groups..

If I am ever seen towing a caravan, you all have my express permission to shoot me. No charges will be pressed.

A numpty is a sub-classification of CarZee's list... so you could have a Max Power Numpty, or a Smells of Wee numpty - both very common varieties...

Do you have to sell your caravan when you reach 35, or are you allowed to keep it to torment future generations??

So, If one were all of the above, would the word head be the correct label?

.... they aren't close to extinction either, I believe there is a rehabilitation program available in Cambridge somewhere hence the reason for the huge number of them in this area!

I saw a documentary about a caravan company that was being 'trouble shooted' by that fat bloke with the 'tash. The croud that gathered at the exhibition were.. interesting ..
Blokes with macs on. Families with matching shell suits. People diliberating over noseweights. Priceless :laughwithtearsineyes:
