Niel Derbyshire has been convicted of sexual offences with a minor. He has been sentenced to 3 years community service and put on the sex offenders register. The brief announcement on the BBC local news was reported more fully in the Mancherster evening news, the Stockport times and the Stockport Express. The details amount to committing an act of indecency in a public place with a male minor. What followed was an agreement for Derbyshire to meet the minor later for a further act of indecency for which a fee of £30.00 had been agreed. The minor then went home and told his mother. Police waited for and arrested Derbyshire carrying a condom, some underpants and lubricant.

Niel Derbyshire was a leading Liberal democrat spokesperson for the environment. A member of Stockport Borough council and champion of endless transport initiatives throughout the town. These include a bus lane on the A6 trunk road, taking it down to single file traffic, numerous speed bumps and 20mph limits. Niel's dream was in his words "a 20 mph limit throughout the town".

This convicted sex offender has now refused to resign form the council. The council leader has asked for his resignation but despite no longer representing the Liberal democrats he has steadfastly refused to go declaring his sentence puts no such conditions on him. Stockport MBC are now seeking the ability to legally remove him from the elected body.

The Stockport Express is seeking public opinion on what his future should be. The poll declares that 21% of people think he should stay.

This is tragic - obviously - and demands a serios response

However - it is Ironic in light of the last ABD newsletter I had where some roadpeace style campaign gadgee reckoned all speeding car drivers and abd organisers were in fact paedophiles and child killers ?

Irony eh !

I find that figure surprisingly low for Stockport

He could always become MP for Macclesfield?

Are you saying that this guy WANTS to remain in office despite this situation?

In the wake of Sohum? You despair, end of story.

Not just wants to remain but is arrogantly determined to remain despite being asked to go by the leader of the council. After all it wasn't like he commited a serious offense like speeding

Sad, sick even, but perhaps inevitable since Councillors expenses were replaced by substantial salaries.
