Dealing with crap businesses
Discussion
Why is it more and more companies seem to find it beyond their capabilities to make/return phone calls? At the moment I'm waiting for a call from an estate agent (1 week), a HI-FI company (10 days) and a mechanic (2 weeks). How f"!*ng difficult can it be? I've built my business up over 14 years on that simple criteria as part of customer service and it never ceases to amaze me (although it shouldn't surprise me any more) when companies can't be bothered. So bloody frustrating...

SJC - please, tell me the secret!
Some of my staff commit this most heinous of crimes and I couldn't agree with you more; it is the worst possible offence, not ringing back I mean.
There's no excuse but in high customer volume related situations it will always be worse than vice versa.
An estate agent though? Hmmm...sounds pretty bad.
In my experience though, this is endemic across many businesses and often, ironically enough, the more money is involved the worse the speed of response (if any) can be.
I have my theories but they are linked to the irreconcilability of pure capitalism and the rampant march of consumerism...
I share your
frustrations 100%; no matter how much money, training and perks you throw at some people it can be a losing battle.

I do not understand it , surely every phone call to your business is an opportunity not a potential problem to be dealt with , or maybe that is just the way i view things , as Desres said the more $$$ £££ EEE involved the longer the wait .
Can these peoples business be so sucssefull that they do not need to return you call , i have two Golf 4motions as company cars which are soon off lease i am replacing them with 1 car so i thought i quite fancy a S4 estate or whatever they call them now , so went down to the Audi emporium they could not give me a quote for taking in the Golfs and i had to speak with their cuzz over in the co- owned V dubb emporium , which i did , the guy their was very diss interested of course because he had no sale to make in this transaction , but he would call back with an offer to buy the 2 Golfs , did he , did he eck as like .
So the off shoot of this is they lost buying 2 cars cheap and lost a sale of 1 fairly expensive car , its the same with my new kitchen suppier , the same with the B&O guy who will arrange for my second TV to be fixed , the list is endless .
WAKE UP I AM YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMER I PAY YOUR BILLS AND MAKE YOU SUCSESSFUL

WAKE UP I AM YOUR POTENTIAL CUSTOMER I PAY YOUR BILLS AND MAKE YOU SUCSESSFUL Estate agents!!!! One of the poorest performers in this respect. One totally f**ked me over by selling a house we had already agreed upon for a higher price, and not even contacting me to tell me so. How dare they sell it to someone else when we had done a deal? I had paid for surveyors, mortgage etc blah blah blah.? The response: Sorry we thought you were not interested anymore and the seller was desperate. Yeh, I bet. Nothing to do with the extra 10 grand then? T0$$ers. Another one doesn't bother to send out details of flats even though I've explained I want a total of three in and around that area (2 for me one for me mum). How can you turn away business like that?
But generally there is a worsening trend of companies just not bothering with customers anymore. And it really does seem to be more prevalent with the more expensive stuff to.

I've just had the displeasure of buying a new home. Flew back from holiday to exchange contracts/move in and it was nowhere near finished. No one had called to say it was'nt ready or apologise. Took a week of phone calls to get the Regional Director to call me back and they have yet to reply to a single letter. Solicitor was absolutely useless too. Now been in a month and get the occasional unskilled muppet knock on the door to attempt some menial repair.... I have given up and started to put it right myself. No connection but www.westbury-homes.co.uk

When I moved into my new house last year I did contact a few Estate Agencies, apart from a choice of locations the only thing I stipulated as a "must have" was a house with a garage (to put my Cerbie to bed in safely at night). So obviously I got sent details of houses without garages
