T-shirt trouble for lawyer

by our news team

A lawyer has run into trouble with prison governors by producing a T-shirt for clients advocating the legalisation of cannabis.

Some inmates on remand at Lewes prison wanted to wear the shirts but prison chiefs have banned them.

Criminal lawyer Ronnie Tremlett said the shirts, which say "A little weed never did us any harm", were made as a promotional joke.

He said: "They are a bit of fun but I do support the decriminalisation of cannabis."

Mr Tremlett ran foul of the authorities two years ago when he produced another banned T-shirt which carried the words "I didn't do it! Nobody saw me do it! You can't prove anything!"

A prison spokesman said at the time: "T-shirts often carry simple logos but we would not allow anything that is not in the interests of good order in the prison."

Mr Tremlett, who has offices in Grand Parade, Brighton, said the latest shirts, which carry his name and phone number on the back, were a light-hearted way of adverting

How can they ban a T-shirt for saying that?

I have some far far far far more offensive t-shirts that I have worn in some highly inappropriate circumstances and never a word has been said.

well it's good publicity I suppose. And

quote:

Is a famous Bart Simpson line from years back (in fact it might be in the 'Do The Bart Man' song......

no wonder they couldn't talk properly.
Bill and Ben were also the archetypical potheads.

remember they're not banned for the general public, just for crims in the nick..

which I think is fair enough.. whatever the Governmor reckons... or should the crims be able to sue under teh ECHR for freedom of expression??? I think not..

Anyway, it gets the lawyer's name in the paper - no publicity is bad publicity and all that - anything that allows you to get an advantage over your competitors is fair game and all that...

I want one of his T Shirts
