speeding ticket for getting out way of ambulance
Discussion
Did you hear the police are prosecuting a man for speeding to get out of the way of an ambulance that had it's blue light on for an emergency, he was overtaking a slow vehicle, so he sped up to get out of the way, but as he was doing this the ambulance turned of, however the ambulance driver later confirmed the mans story, but the police wont drop it, so if you are going through Luton or Dunstable and an emergency vehicle needs to get past whether its ambulance, police or fire engine, think very carefully what to do, if you take long enough to think the emergency might be over and will therefore not need any action from you that might get you a speeding ticket or anything else the police might like to get you for .
this seems to be getting more common. there was the guy who pulled over on a red light and got a ticket for a fire engine or ambulance a couple of weeks ago.
i think the motto of the story is not to get out of any of the services way in future. its no good the services pleading for co-operation when motorists are getting prosecuted for doing their civil duty.

Can't agree. The services need to get places. Getting out of their way is very important.
But do it legally.
They would not ask a citizen to break the law for their convenience.
Thats it, Ambulance and Fire Services already suffer the consequences of stupid "speeding" and such policies.
Fire engines on way to and from accidents have been slowed down, now we get done for speeding up momentarily to get out of the way of emergency vehicles.
Speed bumps slow down ambulances etc etc.
It's really a total joke. Shame that Plod are being arseholes about it too. How would an ambulance driver feel if people stopped co-operating as much out on the roads in emergencies because of this, and were too late to more accidents and emergencies.
Clearly more stupid policy coming from "the top" that has no bearing on real life, like all Labour policy.
Public opinion of Plod is going downhill faster every day with news like this

I find that simply pulling over to the side of the road works fine for me. Why does common sense go out the window as soon as theres a blue flashing light behind
because sometimes it not as black and white as that. there are occasions where extrodinary things happen and thats what happened here.
I emailed the scammers in my area, they confirmed Thier policy. you must not break the law to get out of the way. They said they would issue a ticket, fixed penalty and let the courts decide if there were mitigating circumstances.
A friend is currently being prosicuted for 12mph over the limit. he has tacho proving that he wasnt speeding. he has gps report proving the tacho is genuine, the camera shot slips from tarmac to truck half a second before the speed pops up on screen. the case continues. so far he has driven 1008 miles to and from court appearances. Almost a year has passed.
fighting these cases is not even handed and is beyond the skills and abillities of most people.
to fight the ambulance case would cost the person 4-5 days off work. one year of anguish and about 100 hours on the net. and I'd still put no better odds than 50-50 on winning because they don't care!

I'll still get out of teh way for an emergancy service .. that means driving through a red light, or speeding up / stopping in an unauthorised place etc etc ..
how would you fell if you'd contributed to the death of an injured person because you couldn't face 3 points and 60 pound fine?
I'd happily sacrifice the points and pounds to have a clear conscience.
Of course I say this having a perfctly clear licesnse .. but even if i had 9 points i hope i would still make way for the emergency services..

Is it illegal to 'refuse' to move? I've been 'forced' through traffic lights twice by ambulances, but could I just sit there, or could some charge be brought against me for doing that?
I think that the scammers have made thier position very clear... you will be prosicuted. I will let them through but it will take longer. I will campaign to stop the scammers but in the mean time people may die.
but that is happening any way in the counties where speed cameras are over used.... more people are dying on the roads than before the camera partnerships existed. It is also happening in roadworks sections with cameras. mor accidents, more severe and it is affecting drivers as well as roadworkers.
