Top Trumps Winner
Why do the winners always live in Purley?

As someone said - what a waste...just think of the cars he could have had for that money.
Oi, douche bag! Don't slate the bird unless you've ridden the ripple.
Let's see, depreciation disaster aside and styling by Sumobelly-san (which suits the nature of the car much better than the eco-weeny faggotism of the latest Euro battista at Merc for example), what's so bad about the bugger - if you want a super smooth, relatively rapid, ultra cossetting arse massager?
Well, the engine is nicer than an S430, S500 or 745i. It's quieter where it counts and at 5000rpm or more it manages a respectable, albeit distant V8 growl no less pleasant than my old 740i.
0-60 in a claimed 6.3 was, until Merc got all silly recently, class leading next to normally aspirated options from the hun. Certainly feels fleeter of foot than just shy of 300 horses usually does. Maxes out with the rest at 155 with reasonable ease but I doubt they can claim 30 mpg at a cruise controlled 100mph. I.e. although far from petite it's well slippery.
Toys? yes, anathema to the PH creed, I agree but for traffic jams these days? No effin contest. I left the beetle at home today and quite frankly, given the dearth of hoofing opps, the ultimate ICE (and I mean audiophile grade rather than Max Power calibre) positively contributes to pleasant progress.
Sure, it's no M5 but as a thoroughly inconspicuous barge in which to wind away the stresses of our overly fettered current existences to a standard no other car quite manages - there are surprisingly few alternatives. And the sat nav is a revelation (I was a cynic; not any more).
So cheers for increasing my already well documented inferiority complex about a car which although staggeringly better than anyone really cares to acknowledge (I swear to you, it made the Red Label feel inadequate), doesn't - I assure you - deserve the tirade to which you have just subjected it!
For me, PHism is all about appreciating cars/vehicles in their own right; yes the guy could've bought an M5 but frankly, unless you've been in the position to compare and assess based on the guy's requirements, 'tis a tad harsh.
So,

Fantastic analysis! So whilst we're at it, let's write off the Audi RS6, Bentley Arnage T, and Merc S55 AMG. And let's not forget the 996TT can be had with a semi-auto; ok, not a purist approach but watch it whoop the Tuscan in 9/10 situations.
Jesus, you'd think TVR was the only effin jeffin brand of car worthy of serious consideration.
Perhaps the quality of brain disengagement is located more emphatically in other quarters?

Guess that makes my Merc incredibly boring as well then, Kevin. Each to their bloody own. But let me say this. I get in my car. I start it. I make one gear change, and that's it. I can sit in traffic going nowhere for hours, but it doesn't matter. I have a viscous fan on the engine, and 2 auxiliary fans if the engine gets a bit horny. I can choose a CD from my multichanger and listen to it emanate from 10 of the finest German speakers money can buy. When I get moving I can waft along in relative silence (though a tad noiser than my dear colleague's Nippon Genius Wagon)
Oh, and I never break down. But should the unthinkable happen, Mercedes have paid for breakdown cover for the next couple of years.
Finally, should I want to drive a sportscar, I ask my wife nicely. She's usually quite accomodating, and lets my drive the Porsche whenever I like.
Boring ? Maybe. But heck, would you want a Swiss watch or a Timex ?

Quite agree - some people have different tastes. I personally don't like the car. But imagine If everyone drove TVR's - I would certainly buy shares in recovery companies
:grabsbombproofjacketandrunsforcoverbeforebeingshot: But seriously how old is the bloke? maybe he does alot of miles, etc. Anyway I want my Ferrari, Noble and Masser Spyder cards
