Spot on ! I think car manufacturers must see the number of Max Power stylee top shelf mags and believe that these are the customers to aim for. Cars should be attractive on their own. Maybe it's cos I am a happily married man, but my drool is reserved for curvacious fibreglass, sleek aluminium and well heeled alloys - not silicone implants, botox and bleach...
The trouble is the show itself has little to offer the enthusiast who keeps up to speed with the scene. Almost all of the cars had been seen before the show, even Invicta who had a great chance to steal the show sent out preview pics the weekend before.
They only genuine debut was the T350C, even the MG had been 'spy' photographed recently.

I was in too minds about going to the show, but that has made my mind up. I'll be there on Wednesday ! What's wrong with Totty dressing up dull cars? Lets face it about 85% of cars at the show are dull family transport and unless you're about to invest in one of those, or have a company car due for renewal, then they are of no interest whatsoever. The only attraction of the show are the considerably smaller number of exotic high performance cars that aren't normally seen on the roads. So to make my drudge through the 85% of crap cars more interesting I am highly indebted to the manufacturers who realise their cars are dull and who provide alternative eye-candy in the form of scantily clad bimbos. I only wish TVR would get back to thier form in the seventies, by having great cars and naked women at the same time.
And I like Kylie's arse too - in fact I watched a Kylie concert instead of the motor show coverage on TV yesterday - (I think I probably fall into the middle aged lecher category of Kylie fans)

My wife and I went on Friday (hoped it qould be quieter than the weekend)....were both disappointed. Crap food (£5 for a crappy salt beef sandwich and flat beer £2.40) and crappy train and stations. Only car I had not seen was the TVR's (hmmm) apart from that we both came away thinking we had wasted our time and money. Queuing to get on a stand is crap too!
If I go to another motor show it will NOT be the british one. Geneva sounds good.

I thought this year's show was a lot quieter than previous years.
Had to go on a Saturday this year and arrived at about 9:30 to beat the rush a bit. I think Preview Day in 2000 was busier, to be honest.
The worst ever was the 1988 Motor Show, which was so crowded that if you'd fainted you'd have been held up by all the bodies tighly packed around you.
Have photographic proof somewhere.

Whent to the show on Friday, and I must say dissapointment is an understatment. I dont have a problem with the girls all for it in fact. What I do have a problem with is when you ask one about the cars you just get a blank look. This would not be a problem if they could point you in the right direction to someone with an IQ of over 5 to gain the requested information. The only stand where they gave me the information and treated me with respect was the TVR stand were a chap took his time showing and explaining about all the cars on the stand. He was aware that I was not going to purchase a car or likly to in the near future.
So hats off to all at the TVR stand that turned an expensive uniformative day into a nearly worth while day.

Must be a bit dull for the women who want to go to the show though. Also can be highly embarrassing when accompanied by Mrs Biker, to be trying to look at THE CAR/BIKE without appearing to be leering at the lady draped over it... if I want to look at females, there are plenty of other places to do so. Don't get me wrong, I am a great fan of both art forms, but don't think one should be used to suppliment the other.

I went on Thursday with a mate of mine from Jaguar. We were nosing around, when it became apparent that the people on the stand wouldn't know a Jag customer if they had a big sign on them.
Turns out (like most stands) that they were all agency bods hired in to look nice and smile - half of them didn't even know what a V6 was!
Entertaining for us (asking questions) but bloody disgraceful on the part of the companies involved... and it wasn't just Jag at fault.
IIRC this all started when a photographer at a Motorshow in the 60's said to a girl 'Pose on the front of that Lambo would you love?' and from then on good looking (subjectively speaking) girls and car shows have been synonymous.
I for one am all in favour and would rather them be bikini clad in all honesty!
But then I am also campaigning for the return of the girls with the round cards in boxing.

If that was the year that TVR had the Penthouse Pets on their stand, then yes, it was crowded! I was in the hospitality area on top of the stand when a couple of Page 3/Penthouse girls (Suzanne Mitzi was one) took off the Tuscan Challenge racewear that they had on in order to change into something 'cooler'. I never knew where to hide my face (well I did, but they wouldn't let me
). After that year. Peter Wheeler put a stop to that sort of stuff and the stand in following years concentrated on the cars...

Seems like the bottom line is the interesting cars don't need a woman draped over them. The dull ones do. Not very newsworthy or interesting IMO - just a fact of the matter.. and whether you choose to accept it or not, generally, men are still much more interested in cars than women are.
Still, I suppose they could stretch the analogy and have a bloke with an enormous sperm count and a PhD in Lurvology draped over the Fiat Multipla and a topless fireman on the VW Lupo
