Bentley Contidroppy

Roof lopped off Continental

Summer may be drawing to a close but it's not stopped Bentley announcing their new Continental GTC. Deliveries won't commence until about a year from now.

Despite losing the roof, the new GTC will hit 190mph and boasts the same all wheel drive system and 12 cylinder engine as its tin-topped sibling. The roof is soft fabric and includes a heated glass rear screen.

“The Continental GTC is the third step in our new product and segment strategy,” explained Bentley chairman Dr Franz-Josef Paefgen. “It will again open up the Bentley brand to more customers who only buy convertibles, as well as being a logical next car for our existing owners.”

Further details, including full technical specification, market availability and pricing will be released nearer to the Continental GTC’s on-sale date.

Based on Bentley appeal group and buying demographic, it will come equipped with Taupe tape. Like T*t tape, just it will ensure no wigs go a-flying..!!

Prediction - this thing will outsell the conti GT coupe by at least a 3 to 1 margin in the US.

Kind of the same as the DB7 Volante outsold the coupe.

Personally, I've done the drop top thing and it left me unimpressed (contrary to popular belief, we get our fair share of rain in Florida and you will forget to put the top up and it will rain in it at a moments notice). That being said, this might be a chance to have a second look (after somebody else takes the huge depreciation during the first two years of course).

I am not a great fan of the Conti or the Spur as I cant help but be a purist (whatever that means since 1931), but I do like that.

I'd rather they hurry up with that rear-drive platform VW group's been casting around for. Strip some of the weight off the Conti with the AWD, shift its center of gravity farther back, put it in the true 200mph club (yes, I know it can be pushed to 206, I'm talking Merc-SLR rival).

Mothing a set of 'gangsta' style 50-inch diamond encrusted platinum spinners won't fix.

I like it. Does anyone know if they'll change the steering rack from the coupe like they did with the flying spur, or are they just going to keep the old one?
