Dodge Ram pick-up arrives

Just the thing for the B2116...

Dodge Ram pick-up
Dodge Ram pick-up
Y'all fancy a pick-erp? Well, you got it, in the form of the Dodge Ram.

Chrysler UK dealers start official imports of the Dodge Ram pick-up truck this month, priced from £25,995.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 Quad Cab and Dodge Ram 5.7-litre 4x4 Laramie 1500 Quad Cab will be available from all Chrysler Jeep dealers in the UK in left-hand drive. The Laramie is priced at £25,995 and the SRT-10 is £37,995 -- all prices exclude VAT.

The company's UK boss Simon Elliott said: "There is a big market for classic American trucks in the UK, but up until now, a grey import has been the only way to get your hands on one. Buying an officially imported Dodge Ram through a Chrysler dealer means you get our three year/60,000 mile warranty and access to dealer servicing. You will also get a Thatcham Category 1 alarm system and a quality single vehicle approval (SVA) conversion to make sure you are fully road legal.

"As we get our vehicles direct from the factory our dealers will also undercut the current importers - the Dodge Ram SRT-10 will be around £4,000 less than our competitors."

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 features the 8.3-litre V10 engine from the Dodge SRT-10 (Viper) -- and is said to be the most powerful and fastest production pick-up ever. It produces 500bhp and 525 lb-ft of torque, tops 150 mph and hits 60 mph in just over five seconds.

UK-spec cars will feature a full-length truck bed tonneau cover, 22-inch alloy wheels (feel the price of those tyres), leather heated seats, side airbags and a rear window defroster.

This truck will also be joined by the Dodge Ram 5.7-litre 4x4 Laramie. UK-spec cars will feature side airbags, leather heated seats, 17-inch aluminium wheels and a rear window defroster. An optional full-length bed liner and 20" wheels are available.

50 vehicles will be available through all Chrysler UK dealers from October.

I see quite a few of these here in the fens, where they don't look out of place.

It would tow the seven quite well but the fuel costs would be prohibitive.

They have a diesel option in the USA, 325 bhp & 625 Ib ft, that would tow ANYTHING very well ,with economy as well !

For fun I would imagine. If I had the money & the space to keep 10 or more cars, I'd have one for a laugh.
That much power in a RWD truck would be hilarious.

Saw one on the A322 in Surrey one evening recently.

Thought it was a Range Rover in my rear view mirror to start with (bright, squarish lights, high up) and it seemed to be behaving semi-aggressively.

Thought for a second it might be a police car.

Came off roundabout (in Tuscan) and accelerated briskly up to a mere smidge over 70mph, remembering that I had read on PH that there were now specs cameras on that stretch.

I guess not though. The SRT-10 Ram may have lagged on acceleration but I very quickly heard this enormous noise approach and go past - very akin to a rail locomotive!

Enormous and very distinctive noise.

Would have liked to have given chase but my spidey sense was tingling.

Seen the SRT-10 Ram at a pub near there since, so I guess the SPECS warning must have been wrong - a local would never take the risk of doing (I would guess) 120mph otherwise, right?

If I were confident the truck would fit through the Rotherhithe Tunnel, I might consider one...

I bought the Dodge Ram "RumbleBee" with the 5.7 litre Hemi motor and it was brilliant....apart from filling it up with fuel

IF you can afford less than 10mpg then go for it with the SRT/10 version, but remeber to get the exhaust upgraded with a set of Flowmaster 4" dual exits

If you go to have a look at one, ask the dealer where it will be serviced.

I'd have an SRT-10 Quad Cab tomorrow if it was less than the ridiculous £42k including the VAT.

It's particularly galling that the Government charges a whopping 22% import duty on these trucks and then another 17.5% on the total. By the time you've finished, half the cost is going straight into the Government's fat coffers. I'll wait for a lightly used example.

Thats a bit too big to have fun in unless your idea of fun is running over stuff or you have the whole state of Texas as your playground

what you want are

Ford Falcon Tornado Ute
270kW of power and 550Nm

or V8 GT version

Not to mention the HSV Maloo which I assume you are familiar with
www.hsv.com.au/cars/vx/vx_maloo/vx_maloo_main.htm

Both way more fun.

As the late night Tunnelers know, the big diesel RAM doesn't exactly hang about!

Hi r988, I have a huge fun 500+bhp rwd car already, as well as several other amusing cars.
But, IMO, 500bhp in a massive pick up would be massive fun, in the right situation i.e not a narrow country lane!
Hence, why I would have it as part of a (fantasy) stable of 10 or more cars.
Plenty of big roundabouts & dualcarriageways/motorways
to amuse myself in it.
Would love to out drag fast cars at the lights in one, preferably with a couple of ladders in the back.
The sheer nonsense of it all makes me laugh just thinking about it.
The other fantastic ute's you mention are just too sensible in comparison.

It's NOT a big pickup truck, it's more a small Kenworth. Much better than an apology for a pickup.

I don't know about the SRT-10 version, but a crewcab with the Cummins turbodiesel would be a truck I wouldn't feel ashamed to drive. I certainly don't mind these big American trucks, because they have so much presence on the road, and can hual a lot of kit when required. But a petrol one probably isn't the most sensible purchase, performance variant or otherwise. Wouldn't mind a 2002 Chev Silverado either, in black with a little chrome on the bumper, but the Ram gets my vote as the best looking (not the SRT-10 though - that's just silly).

R988, the same applies with the falcon utes (almost). I don't like performance variants, so the gt (especially with the detestable stripes) and the typhoon (rather the sedan) would be left at the dealer, especially now FPV has put those bogan oil-temp dials on the top of the dash. Mine would just be a base falcon XLS ute - in my opinion the BA looks better without the sports bodykit or any of that (Dad has a base model BA mk2 XT sedan - pleasant enough but the seats were better in the AU2 we had).

As for the Holdens, I'd just accept a VX series maloo because the front looks so good, and it doesn't always have a spoiler on the hard tonneau. VX SS looks good as well.

Ali.

Got an SRT 10 coming late Nov and I can't wait........I'm so excited.

All the technicians will be fully trained if the dealer choses to take these trucks and not all of them will.

If you want one make sure you buy through a Main Dealer, they get full three year warranty and propper technical support straight from the Factory.

Sounds like I need the big system though. These V10 have a habit of sounding like a Transit van.
