Tailgating
Drop back now...
Discussion
Or put another way; 'Bad driving causes accidents' Maybe the tailgaters were too busy glueing their eyeballs to their speedometers. Also, they seem to have missed out those most serial tailgaters - the ones in blue and white Volvo V70 T5s with lights on the roof. Ever had one of those sitting in your boot?

Tailgating is my number 1 hated driving error.
To be fair to our uniformed friends in their Volvos it is also un-******ing-believable how many people don't notice the large white Volvo just behind them with the bright flashing blue lights on the roof...trying to get somewhere in a hurry.
In fact...this also seems to go for those extremely large bright red things with the blue lights as well.
I don't condone tailgating. But you know the frustration we feel when the numpty in front seems oblivious to the fast moving car behind? Imagine how that must feel when you're trying to save someone's life..

I did 180 miles this morning after a weekend away. Hit the M25 at about 9:15. It wasn't too bad (except for the M3 junction).
But.....
There are 4 lanes. And everyone seems to want to drive in lane 3.
I tried to be good. Really I did. But several overakes that started from lane one and traversed *all* of the motorway to overtake someone on the phone in a Mundaneo later, I decided down the inside with a lane inbetween us was much, much safer......
Those 4-lane sections of the M25 certainly confuse the hell out of middle-lane drivers. Oh no, 2 middle lanes!! Which one should be I be sitting in for mile after mile at 55mph??
I don't let it wind me up any more - just stick to the inside and undertake. Did it yesterday, and despite heavy traffic in the other 3 lanes, I managed to drive unimpeded in the inside lane for a good couple of miles at one point. I was particularly amused by the Cinquecento driver in lane 2, who stared and pointed at me, and said something to his passenger - no doubt having a go at me for undertaking, compared, of course, to his totally safe technique of driving in the wrong lane and too close to the van in front.

That's what I do. I'm just waiting for some
over keen copper to pull me in for Dangerous
Driving.
I figure that if there's enough room to get my car,
at over sixteen feet, past them, with the usual big
front & back safety gap, then there's enough room
for them to pull in.
Like the young lady asleep at the wheel yesterday
trundling along at 65 mph in the right lane
while the rest of us are trying to get home
sometime this century.
Research also shows that 87.6% of statistics are just made up.
Sorry to be a pedant but it should be 87.612%.
Why is that everyone following me seems to think they have a better reaction time. It would be difficult sometimes to get a fag paper between bumpers. What really rankles is when leaving motorway and late braking by following cars results in 1" gap behind. Have been rear shunted (no nudge comments please)4 times on motorway. As was generally in Disco with rear tow bar no big deal for me.

I'd love to know how many people are prosecuted relating to talgaiting . . . vs the number of people prosecuted for speeding . . . I suspect we'll find that the police essentially ignore tailgaiting, regardless of the fact that it causes plenty of accidents . . . probably more than as a direct result of speeding . . .

Well now .......
Tailgating and passing on the left.... the two go hand in hand on our un-disciplined roads. Personally I love to fly down the left hand lane at about 90 with all the f@ckwits in the right two lanes at 60-70 ..... Scares the nads off em
Had one nit on the M1 Sunday, wouldn't move left even thoug it was perfectly clear ahead and nothing holding HER up, then after numerous flashes (of me lights thank you!), SHE finally pulls over, only to pull straigh back out agian as soon as I went past.... MAD!
