Is this part of Ford's "Living Legends" jobbie...

Keep a look out for the "new" Model-T... with a 3.0 Duratec V6 people!

Am I missing something here?

It may appeal to the American market, but its a TRUCK fer gawds sakes.

Do I like the idea of a 430 bhp 5 litre v8? Yes. Does a classic pickup with said engine appeal? Not really.

Possibly. The aim of the project was to show how versatile the crated engine is for dropping into all vehicles. Sadly they've lost sight of that and modified an inappropriate vehicle as their demonstrator.

awww Ted, it's a fun project. I'd drive it.. not that I like that style overly much, but it would be fun to beat most cars out there.

I like it - not too keen on the wheels, but I've always loved the look of those old stepside pickups. And the idea of modern brakes/engine/suspension in it is even more appealing.

Guess most people visiting this site don't know much about hot rodding, but it's long been a major part of American car culture and many F100s have been given the hot rod treatment.

Ford have basically produced a factory hot rod using modern high performance running gear as opposed to the usual pushrod V8/auto box. So yes, it's a truck, and yes, it's designed for American tastes - but then where do you think Ford are going to sell most of those engines?

Regarding the wheels by the way, their smooth finish is due to the fitting of 'moon' discs which were a popular way of improving aerodynamics for running on the Bonneville salt flats way back in the 40s/50s and which hot rodders adopted for road use back in the days before alloys. Still used today for that retro-rod look.

Too right. Gee, I'm really impressed that they've managed to "squeeze" their engine into a vehicle with just about the largest engine bay I've ever seen...

Says Who? Pick up trucks are part of American culture, something I think most people here just do not understand. Like you said.. the point was to demonstrate the engine... and most of them will probably be sold in the USA anyway.

(sorry for venting !)

Trucks have large engine bays to begin with. It would have been a far better demonstration of the engine's versatility if they had packaged it in a front-engined and rear-engined regular sized car.

Besides, old American trucks are sinfully ugly. Oh, I see why they are so popular...NOT!

The questuion we SHOULD be asking here is, where can we buy one of these crate engines, and how much will it cost?
Also subsidary questions such as can it be had complete with rwd gearbox?
